Adding Era 300 to Sonos Five stereo set up

Hi Community, I have a pair of Fives and Sub 3 set up in a 28’ X 18’ foot open space..  The Fives are wall mounted and centred on the long side.  Space has concrete floors with rug and soft furnishings in the middle, the space is open timber frame construction, with a peaked ceiling height of 28’ and large wooden beams breaking up walls.  I’m thinking of adding a single Era 300 opposite the Fives to fill in the sound.  Also, unless I can reverse the L-R of the Era speaker, it seems it would be firing opposite to the mains.  Music only. Thoughts?

I wouldn’t go with an Era 300 for this plan either, unless you have future plans to use this elsewhere in your home.  You are paying for atmos capabilities, but since your intent is to group with Fives, you aren’t going to be able to use atoms.   The high ceilings aren’t going to work well for atmos even if you used the Era 300 by itself.

For the money, I would go with a pair of  Era100s, which would give you better stereo separation and allow you to flop L/R channels easily.  Or, you could get a Move 2, which will give you the advantage of portability.

Probably something I wouldn’t do, in general. But there’s no reason not to try it, and ‘group’ the two ‘rooms’. See if you like it, and it fills the room in the way you want. If you don’t, just use the Era 300 somewhere else, or, if you purchased it from Sonos and are in the appropriate return period, send it back.

I wouldn’t do it either. I’d go with another Five as the sound characteristics are a better match. I wouldn’t say you’re mixing Apples and Oranges; but I will say they are Tangerines and Oranges 😂.

BTW… not sure what you mean by reversing L+R of the Era 300; but as far I know there is no such adjustment. They are what they are and will decide how to project the sound based upon the source.

Danny, I think autocorrect broke your post ;)

I like your alternative, though.

Thanks all, I get the idea of characteristic mis match now.  I already have a couple of Ones and a Roam to play with too, so will try that route.

Try the Ones as a stereo Pair and grouped with the Fives.

You might also consider moving the Sub from the Fives to the Ones as you’ll get more out of both of them compared to having it on the Fives.
