Question

Sonos One vs Era 100 - which multi room placement

I have a Dining Room/Kitchen room, and open to that is the adjacent Living Room. Currently I have two Sonos Ones paired with an original Sub. I have ordered a Beam 2/mini-sub/2 Era 100’s for the Living Room, which is where the TV is. It is sad that Sonos does not let me share the Sub with Both rooms, but what are you going to do?

My guess is that the original room DR/K, which is where I play music from Spotfiy, would benefit most from the Era 100s. If that were true, then I would make that room with the Era 100s and the original Sub. The Beam, for the TV room, would be paired with the mini-Sub and the Ones. Do you think this is sound reasoning? Finally, would it ever be a good idea, musically, to play music to both rooms simultaneously? Each room is about 12’ x 12’

Since you say you’ve ordered the new speakers, you can configure the speakers in whatever combination you want to try. Your ears can tell you the best arrangement.

Depends on you, honestly. My ears aren’t a judge for yours. In general, due to the like of movies I have, I’d be more likely to bind the Sub with the Beam, but you may listen to different things than I do. The nice thing about Sonos is that you can try it both ways, and see what you prefer, fortunately it is (relatively ) changeable. But as you suggest, it isn’t something I’d be doing frequently, the change between bonded rooms is a little bit much (for me), and a bit more onerous than I’d like. Not hard, just annoying to me,

When trying the Sub and Sub Mini, bear in mind that placement can make a big difference to the resultant sound. Plug each into an extension cable and you can easily try different locations in each room until you’re happy.

Using both Rooms for music is simple, use the Sonos Group option and they will play together properly.

For TV, the non-tv Room will have a slight delay/echo. Usually not too bad in different rooms.

I'd use the 100s as the second Room, the Ones are more than adequate as surrounds.

As suggested try both options for the Sub and go with your ears.
