I've got a stereo pair of play 3's downstairs not doing much anymore, just a bit of Spotify. What, if any, options do I have these days to send audio from portable devices? For example, watch a movie (think any of the numerous video streaming services available) on a phone, tablet, or laptop but have the audio output from the play 3 pair?

So far it seems impossible without another device added to the mix.

I have a play bar and sub upstairs, also a Move 2.

Thank you kindly.

None that I’m aware of, for direct connection. I don’t know of any video players that allow you to split audio and video in to separate streams. But the PLAY:3s are from before Sonos included the electronics to receive the Bluetooth signal, or an AirPlay 2 signal, directly.

You could send a Bluetooth signal (or AirPlay 2 for that matter)  to your Move 2, and ‘group’ it with the PLAY:3s, and have your mobile device connect to it. That would get any any ‘sound’ from your mobile device into the Sonos ecosystem, and play anything sent on both the Move 2 and the grouped PLAY:3s.

Is there any cheeky work arounds? Something that doesn't require me to cannibalze my Move 2 just for some richer youtube (video) or Netflix sound for my mobile devices?

I know the ecosystem is a bit different to when I invested in the gen 1 system, what about a cheaper Sonos speaker that could act as a centre channel? Is that even possible, or am I stepping to playbar/arc territory?

No, there is no ‘cheeky workaround’ that I’m aware of.

We, the Sonos customers, have been asking for a center channel speaker since the original PLAYBAR was released, so far, Sonos hasn’t seen the need.
