Connecting different speakers to the same system

A number of years ago, I set up a 3-speaker system in my living room of Play 1s. This xmas, I treated myself to a new speaker, this time an Era 100. I just opened the box (it’s been busy here) to learn that I can’t pair the Era with the Play speakers. The existing speakers are set up as one L-R pair of Plays and I wanted to pair the new Era 100 with an old Play to make another L-R pair. I probably should have read more carefully before ordering because it says you can only pair like speakers. Since I didn’t know that, I was thinking to return the Era but maybe there’s a way to connect them that I haven’t thought of. I’d appreciate any suggestions you may have. Thanks.

Unlike speakers cannot be setup as a stereo pair, but they can be Grouped together and with other Rooms. In your case the two speakers will be separate mono Rooms.

So each speaker will be playing stereo instead of L-R?

The 100 has the ability to play stereo, look at the owner's manuals.

The Play 1 will play mono, L+R, when not Paired or used as a surround.

You might be able to stereo-pair them using a third-party app; how sonically similar they may be I couldn’t say.
