I’m trying to get better sound balance without cluttering the room. Any placement tips that worked well for you?

How many speakers are you talking about?

What is the size of the room?

What is your primary use of the speakers? Music Tv or both?

What speakers do you currently have for the room?

Since every room is different and also every ear hears sound differently, I would suggest experimenting with a single speaker like a soundbar, if you have one, or a stereo pair of smaller speakers like the Era 100s to see if it satisfies your needs. But without more information, there is no way to make suggestions for you.

If you tend to sit and listen to music as your primary activity, start your negotiations with the room by forming an equilateral triangle with your primary listening position and the speakers. The environment near each speaker should be similar. For example don’t place one speaker in a corner while there is no corner near the other speaker. And the speakers should be near eye level. If you have more control of the room layout, avoid sound reflecting surfaces near the speakers.

You can be even more anal and spend all of your free time optimizing. Some people never sit and listen. This is not a criticism. For this type of listening the focused character of the listening spot suggested above is not necessary and you should concentrate on uniform sound distribution in the area, you don’t need or want ‘focus”.

I liked this option, placing the speakers at ear level and a little distance from the walls and tilting towards the main listening position. This usually improves the balance without adding noise.
