I have a named group “Upstairs”.

Hey Sonos, play August by Taylor Switch, just Upstairs

Ignores the location, uses last device. What is the syntax to play to a named group?

Huh. Looked at https://support.sonos.com/en-us/article/list-of-voice-requests-for-sonos-voice-control, what happens if you drop ‘just’?

Asking, because I don’t use this system….

I assume you meant Taylor SWIFT and not Switch. That’s your first issue😂

  • Just say...Hey Sonos..play August by Taylor Swift on Upstairs.

It worked for me when I said  “Hey Sonos..play August by Taylor Swift on Stereo”.

I attributed that to autocorrect on typing, not an actual error by @controlav , but the question is, I’d assume, if you’ve played somewhere else first, how do you change to ‘just’ stereo. My question about dropping the ‘just’ stands. You’ve used the more correct (in my mind) ‘on’, I’m wondering if that is the difference.

Ooops ...I actually missed the part about “Upstairs” being a “Group”.

However,...

Yes, it should work by saying…

  • Hey Sonos..Play August by Taylor Swift on Upstairs

I tested the same by saying…

  • Hey Sonos...Play August by Taylor Swift on Test Group 2

I tried “on Upstairs” and “on upstairs group” - no grouping occurs.

“everywhere” does work.

Also half the time it plays the album “Folklore” instead of the track. Using Spotify if that makes a difference.

Is Alexa an better at named groups? Its a gigantic pain to set up compared to SVC though so I would rather not.

Mt wife still complains my old Alex skill “My Speaker” is no longer available.

It worked again for me.

My group is permanent meaning I don’t create it on the fly. It only consists of two rooms.

Although, I have SiriusXM as my default service SVC plays the track via Amazon Music. SVC says… I’m sorry Sonos Voice Control is not available for SiriusXM yet.

I do know (at least in my experience) SVC is very sensitive to conversation noise. It will pick up conversations and start playing what it thinks is a command. Happens on several occasions which is one reason I don’t use it. If you are giving the command to SVC from a distance try standing close to the speaker that has SVC installed to see if that makes a difference.

I only set it up to test in reference to your post.

FYI, Alexa is my VC. However, I never bothered to setup the  group in Alexa which is required in order to use Alexa in the same manner. So in that aspect SVC is smarter.

My only suggestion (if distance from the speaker is not the issue) is to remove SVC, reboot the speaker and add SVC again.

Good Luck 👍
