I want a stereo setup for my desktop PC, which has an optical port. Will a pair of Era 300 front speakers work for this?

Yes, and from an optical connection. The Era’s do not do optical. @ATMOS you need a soundbar to get this working.

ignoring the OP’s use case…As strange as it may sound wanting stereo from a speaker designed for Atmos we can blame Sonos marketing for that concept. Click the link and scroll down to “which speaker is right for you”. At the very least you would think they would asterisk that claim with a disclaimer for someone wanting a speaker specifically designed for stereo. Let’s not forget the  Five.

Not watching the videos, but.

I have two Pairs of 300s, one with a Sub and one without. While I do listen to stereo on them it is not my preference. My Play 5s are better stereo speakers, a newer Five Pair would be even better.

The reason I got the first  300s was to use as TV surrounds and while they sounded great the spouse was less than happy with the placement. Moved them to my office as a Pair and started listening to Atmos music and was very impressed. I got the second Pair and Sub to replace some very old Play 3s and the upgrade in sound plus the Atmos playback made the upgrade well worth it.

So for stereo get a pair of Fives  for Atmos get a Pair of 300s and if possible a Sub, Full sized or mini depending on your room. The 300s are decent in stereo so there is no reason to avoid them, it is just the Fives are better.

All this according to my ears of course, yours may be different.
