Play:3 as a PC speaker?

Greetings,

I thrifted a Play:3 for $15 recently and figured it would be a solid upgrade to my basic Creative Pebbles that I'm using now. I was wondering if I could use it as a PC speaker system with my laptop's dock setup. The laptop is plugged into a Pluggable Thunderbolt 3 dock, which is plugged into a Netgear gigabit switch shared with my other devices. If I plug the speaker into the switch, will my laptop be able to use it as an audio out? I'm on a captive network but I already provided the admins with the MAC address to get it online.

Thanks!

Not really. The PLAY:3 has no line in on it, and requires Sonos software to connect to it. I’ve never heard of anyone reprogramming it (it’s a Linux kernel) to accept outside of Sonos data.

Not saying it’s impossible, but I’d guess it might be a huge, huge amount of work. And likely more than making one ‘work’ with your system feasible.

You will also need your network connection configured so that a Sonos Controller, Android or Apple, can connect to the Play 3. Once set up, the desktop or web Controllers could be used.
