PC-LG C2-arc

Forum|alt.badge.img

Hi,

I just set up arc+2x One and everything (including Dolby Atmos) works great after a short set-up. However, I do experience weird delay when starting any audio. I takes about 5 to 10 seconds before the sounds starts going out and it seems like the arc disconnects and reconnects in the process.. do you have any idea what could be the cause and how to fix it?

Thank you in advance,

Jan

Hi @Jan_czechia

Welcome to the Sonos Community!

It sounds like you might have a HDMI-CEC conflict. Please disconnect other devices from the TV and test - if that improves matters, reconnect the devices one at a time until you find the culprit, then see if it has options to disable CEC functions (like change TV input, or power TV on/off with device).

It could also be worth just unplugging your TV from power for a minute.

Alternatively, I recommend you get in touch with our technical support team who have tools at their disposal that will allow them to give you advice specific to your Sonos system and what it reports.

I hope this helps.

Same here, with all three rooms. Two rooms have Beam gen 2 and one has arc. Different surrounds in all three rooms:  Era 300s, Era 100s, and OneSLs. Typical delay is about 4 seconds.

What is your audio source? If it is PC Audio with some 3rd party streaming App, you won’t get much improvement on the delay, as a result of the streaming process from my experience. I suspect this is a combination of audio codec changes, speed of the app doing the audio compression and streaming process as well as local network speeds - even if you’re running a 100mb or 1gig network ports. I have seen minor improvements in the delay by hardwiring all speakers rather than using WIFI/Sonos mesh but nothing significant.
I resorted to using the 3.5mm stereo audio in on Sonos Connect with my Study PC, but could have put a sound card in the PC with digital audio (Spdif) output and use that into the Sonos soundbar (or Connect for that matter) for digital audio, but spdif doesn’t support Atmos as far as I know.
The other solution I have in the lounge is to use an audio/video matrix switcher. I use one of these to take HDMI Audio out of a Mac Mini and split the video to a projector and HDMI Audio input to my Sonos Playbar. This way there is no delay when playing audio out of the Mac Mini, either as a Gaming device or home video playback or, as I use it, streaming TV services via WWW.

Amazon sell the digital AV matrix switchers, just be sure to spend the money and time to research one that has 4K video and Atmos capability.

hope that helps. NI.

Thanks for the detailed response. I think my setup is different. I have an Apple TV and use the Apple Music app to stream music through my Sony TV and out the eARC connection to the arc or beam.

BTW, it just now occurred to me to see what happens when I use the Sonos app to play Apple Music directly to the sound bar. It turns out it buffers before it starts and no music is lost. If only it were easier to find things using the app.

I'm going to have to study this more to see if I can pin down the circumstances under which the delay does and does not occur. I get back later.

Hello! I have a similar issue I think with my system.

-Arc -one surrounds  -sub gen 3.

Connected to my PC via sonos optical audio adapter. And optical cable from arc to MOBO.

When in FL studio, I notice the delay the most when playing my yamaha keyboard. But gaming its just fine. Am I just missing a setting in FL?

I appreciate your help in advance!

Hi @Macdre024

When connecting your Arc directly to the optical connection on your PC motherboard, I would not expect you to experience any delays.

I am not familiar with FL Studio (other than watching Eliminate use it on YouTube), so I cannot say whether there are any settings for it that may help you - I suspect not, however, as I see no reason for it to want to ever delay audio.

It might be worth ensuring that when you play FL, you see PCM in the Now Playing screen of the Sonos app - if you do not, Windows may be encoding all audio to some other format which would take some amount of time - if this is happening, and you can find a way to stop it, it may be the answer you are looking for. Full disclosure, however - this really is just a guess! If this is the problem, I presume the setting to stop it would be in the Settings » Sound options for Windows, somewhere (Settings » Sound » Device Properties » Spatial Sound » Off, perhaps).

I hope this helps.
