I got two speciel limitied edition of the Play One from 2015’sh.
The main difference is that the grille is white, and the surface was a bit rubber-like.

They are still doin a fantastic job playing, however the looks is terrible.

The rubbery surface is as sticky as glue, and when dust is combined, the surface is completely destroyed by looks.

Hase anyone seen the before, or having any advance of what to do?

Haven't seen that before, what cleaning products have you used on them?

None by the looks of things.

I think these were the Hay editions which used the rubber / soft touch coating that was all the rage at the time and over the years was dropped for this issue (many manufacturers) when the rubber deteriorates.

The coating can be removed with some effort using Isopropanol, or isopropyl and a cloth but do try an inconspicuous area first… not that it could possibly make it any worse.

PS the Sonos logo will also be removed doing this.

I had that stuff on a couple keyboards, great at first, then sticky and dirty. Much rubbing with 91% alcohol got it off with minimal damage.

With the grill holes maybe add a toothbrush and a vacuum cleaner to try to keep the removed coating under control.

If you elect to remove the coating, I don’t know what the underlying area will look like. Hopefully the result will be uniform. Also take care to prevent the solvent from entering the internals — this will require developing some technique.

Alternatively, or if they do not look like much anymore after cleaning them, you could look a a Soundskin pouch for your Play 1’s.
