Today we are introducing the most extensive app redesign ever, creating an unprecedented streaming experience that allows listeners to organize their favorite playlists, stations, albums and more from over 100 services on one customizable Home screen.

Home Screen

The new Home screen provides faster access to Sonos system controls with one easy swipe up, making tab to tab jumping a thing of the past. As a leader in sound experience that’s focused on creating a better way to listen, Sonos intentionally redesigned the app on a modern software platform for an easier, faster and better experience that can support more rapid innovation.

The reimagined app supports all existing S2 products and will be available globally through a software update for the S2 mobile app.

100+ streaming services, one Home screen

The redesigned Sonos app prioritizes a listening experience that’s human - allowing you to bring your true favorites front and center and giving you more control to make your streaming experience your own.

  • Get into your music (and off the app) faster: No need to tap between tabs — the new Home screen serves up all your favorite content and controls, all in one place. Quickly jump back into your recently played, browse libraries and recommendations from your preferred services, and fill your home with music and all the sounds you love.
  • Customize and curate: Enjoy unparalleled curation by designing your Home screen to reflect how you listen. Pin rows of your favorite content and services; then move, edit, or rearrange them to your liking.
  • Search every streaming library: Look for an artist, song, podcast, or audiobook across all your preferred streaming apps at once via an easy-to-use search bar that’s always available right on your Home screen.
  • Elevated system control: Swipe up from the bottom of your Home screen to seamlessly control your entire system and access a visual overview of what’s playing on each of your products, quickly group speakers, and dial in on the perfect volume from anywhere in the app.

Accessible from any modern web browser, a brand new web app allows listeners the same seamless system control as the mobile app.

The new Web App

The Web App will be available alongside the redesigned mobile app on May 7, 2024.

Here you can find the full press release.

Got an email from Sonos entitled “Heads up” today - presumably they are releasing their new headphones on 21st May at 14.00 BST (in the UK). Clicking on the “Learn more” link doesn’t add much info, but leads to this page

Link page

Never mind the main content, a banner at the top of the page proclaims:

“The Sonos app is redesigned and better than ever. Get the latest update now.”

Seriously? The new app is the reason I’ll be boycotting their headphones!

Thank goodness for SonoPhone - not very pretty but at least it works!

Is this App REALLY what Sonos is going with? I left BOSE for the crap response from that interface. Sold off ALL my BOSE speakers and spent ALOT of money to set up my house. I was SO happy, the app worked, all speakers responded. Now we have this new APP??????? It is the WORSE. Nothing works. My NAS path was removed. Can’t seem to add it back(saw a message on that will have to check it out). Seriously, this app offers NOTHING and does not even work to turn off ONE speaker. Come on SONOS for the prices paid for your systems this is horrendous.

The new mobile app disconnected all my devices and cannot reconnect now

Same thing here. I can no longer find my system. What guarantee do I have that if I waste an hour to reconfigure things will not break again in a few days. Shame on you Sonos. I was about to buy more products.

I wonder what the reviewers will say about the new app when they review the headphones.

If they choose to ignore it they will damage their credibility, if they say too much the may not receive free products from Sonos to review in the future.

Given that on 21st May the app will still be missing important functionality I think that the would be foolish not to point this out.

Hey guys, can you help? I am facing two major issues with new Sonos app. I have 11 zones / rooms and I can only play one song at a time. If I want to start playing another song simultaneously in another zone / room the first one is stopping (I am using Spotify). Secondly all my Sonos Playlists are gone. I have only Spotify Playlist available and Sonos? How to solve these issues? Best

Maybe it is possible to go back to the previous version of the app?

Need to fix the app.

Alphabetical access to your music library is a critical function

search results should include music library

i I mean seriously - dropping that functionality is absurd and will lead me to another solution. Sonos was a really good product, let’s hope this isn’t some dastardly master plan, but rather just an inept rollout of new software

Well as you have taken away the alarm system? How do I cancel the alarms as still going off in the morning which is ok for now but once we go away could be a problem 🤔

I’m assuming you have perhaps been ‘out of town’. The Alarm features were put back in the Sonos App in the last App update.

Or maybe because the app is a buggy POS they may be one of the many unlucky who have not had the alarms come back.

With the updated mobile app, I seem to have lost the ability to play an album rather than individual items. I listen to classical music and stream from IDAGIO. If I now select an album, I can see all the tracks, but I don’t see a Play All. I have to select one track at a time to add to the queue, which is tedious for a symphony with four movements, but trying to listen to an opera with, say, 77 “songs” is ridiculous! I can play an album from my computer for the time being, but the mobile (iOS) app is completely useless. Very disappointed the new S2 was released in this state.

Hello???

Is there anyone at Sonos who ever reads the reviews of the new app??  They are uniformly horrible and, based on my personal experience, completely accurate.

How do you people run a company that produces such abysmal software that is required to operate your extremely expensive speakers and hardware?  How long do you expect consumers to continue to tolerate this situation before you’re run out of business?

They should at LEAST acknowlegde the new app is a bug fest and they are working on fixing it and we can expect a fix in X days…. this is crazy, my system is unusable… and then an hour later something random will play.  Really burned any good will I had with Sonos.  So frustrated.  How can anyone release an app without obviously testing it?

It’s perhaps no comfort for some, but Sonos have put out this, to try to show that work is ongoing with the new Sonos App…

Wont let me read it without a sub what kinda bs is that, i can pretty much guess what it says like, app is uber w**k right now and theres probably going to be features locked behind a subscription.

Yeah same for me too - the Washington Post wants a subscription sign-up to let me read the article. I think I’ll pass on that.

I'm sorry, to release an update which basically bricks an entire system is not good at all.

was working fine until I updated on iOS now it won't play, will play then stops, won't add a zone, really buggy and laggy, takes ages to connect to the the streaming service. crashes. FFS, my system has 3 ones, a beam, 2 connects and 3 ports in it, so its not small….. now I'm having to resort to the old-fashioned music sources, and I've cracked out the vinyl..

GET IT FIXED before we all chuck then through the window!!

Agree with most -- new app is horrible, slow, errors (“not connected”, non-intuitive, in short, a big step backward; why would i want to upgrade the hardware when this appears so weak

Dont upgrade your hardware, just go buy there headphones 😁

Im trying to find the Battery% of my Roam, verry hard to find

Indeed, does anyone at SONOS review use input ????

Asleep?

Dear Sonos,

It’s very clear that no-one likes this new app update. There is no use in trying to fix it, as at this rate it will take months. The writing is on the wall. The app needs to be rolled back to the previous version. This new version needs to be put back into development and only released after proper and thorough quality control with all the features available from the previous app.

In software, nothing should be released until it is absolutely ready with proper quality assurances.

It is very broken on Android in particular.

Please rectify the situation by rolling back the update ASAP.

Who ever approve the new app update should be unemployed. Did people even try using it before it was released, it’s honestly sooo bad I’m considering getting out of the Sonos ecosystem after 8yrs and over 15 different products. It’s that bad…

Apparently they did have beta testers, i asked if there was any of them here (it was my 1st post here actually) but i got no reply. Later on i read a comment from someone who said a beta tester had commented about the state of the app during his testing, i had a quick look but i couldnt find it.
