Today we are introducing the most extensive app redesign ever, creating an unprecedented streaming experience that allows listeners to organize their favorite playlists, stations, albums and more from over 100 services on one customizable Home screen.
Home Screen
The new Home screen provides faster access to Sonos system controls with one easy swipe up, making tab to tab jumping a thing of the past. As a leader in sound experience that’s focused on creating a better way to listen, Sonos intentionally redesigned the app on a modern software platform for an easier, faster and better experience that can support more rapid innovation.
The reimagined app supports all existing S2 products and will be available globally through a software update for the S2 mobile app.
100+ streaming services, one Home screen
The redesigned Sonos app prioritizes a listening experience that’s human - allowing you to bring your true favorites front and center and giving you more control to make your streaming experience your own.
Get into your music (and off the app) faster: No need to tap between tabs —the new Home screen serves up all your favorite content and controls, all in one place. Quickly jump back into your recently played, browse libraries and recommendations from your preferred services, and fill your home with music and all the sounds you love.
Customize and curate: Enjoy unparalleled curation by designing your Home screen to reflect how you listen. Pin rows of your favorite content and services; then move, edit, or rearrange them to your liking.
Search every streaming library: Look for an artist, song, podcast, or audiobook across all your preferred streaming apps at once via an easy-to-use search bar that’s always available right on your Home screen.
Elevated system control: Swipe up from the bottom of your Home screen to seamlessly control your entire system and access a visual overview of what’s playing on each of your products, quickly group speakers, and dial in on the perfect volume from anywhere in the app.
Accessible from any modern web browser, a brand new web app allows listeners the same seamless system control as the mobile app.
The new Web App
The Web App will be available alongside the redesigned mobile app on May 7, 2024.

Thank you for letting me know that i cannot use my local libraries.
Thank you for the money you saved me as I will not buy another Sonos until you decide to listen to your customers.
I wonder what the ratio is for NEGATIVE versus POSITIVE responses overall? My impression out of the 1000s of posts is something like 99 against to 1 for. Even that may be generous!
The silence from Sonos High Command is DEAFENING (yes, I'm shouting - anybody there?)
Hello Sonos,
Please fix Android App asap or rollback.
This new app is barely usable, don’t support major features, is ashaming your company and your customers.
How can a corporate like you relase such application and think this would be ok ?
I am shocked and I won’t wait long for you if you are unable to listen, consider and fix your total failure.
Please act now, acknowledge, appologize and fix it
I may be wrong, and encryption/firewalls aren’t the issue but. I think that ‘under the covers’, this app moves to more cloud-based services, so perhaps its now doing something it didn’t do before.. Once the shouting stops, someone may explain more.
Second thought, try triggering Registration. It’s quirkily triggered by ‘transfer Ownership’ to yourself….
Settings ( Cog), ‘manage’ and then choose Transfer ownership. Log in and transfer to the same userid, It fixed others issues in setting up new speakers
Tried this. Nope, no luck. I give up for today. Infuriating.
Update: two of my speakers (out of the five Sonos speakers that I have) now appear on one of my devices (only on my iphone, not my Ipad or the Web browser) so some genius at Sonos has managed to get me 20% of my previous functionality back?!
SONOS: GIVE THE OLD APP BACK SO I CAN USE MY SYSTEM AGAIN!
How come you are still recommending this absolute sh*tshow of an update weeks after it is clear how terrible it is?
I’m user of Sonos devices since 2015. I made several playlists through this time that now, with this new app have all gone.
In addition, even if I wanted to make a brand new playlist, I cannot do it because it is not possible to add songs to an existing queue.
This is a big leap backwards in app performance as long as I cannot enjoy the music what I want, when I want and the way I want.
I suggest you to get back to old app and re-think completely the new one.
I fear Sonos plans to implement a monthly licensing fee, and needs the new software platform to do so. Why else be so aggressive in pushing the updates, and refuse to allow customers to revert to the prior software? I hope that’s not the case, but for some reason Sonos is clearly willing to alienate its customers. Their desire to “create a new revenue stream” could easily be that reason. If so, I’ll dump their products and switch to bluetooth, chromecast, bluesound, Wiim, apple airplay, or any other of a number of products that don’t require monthly payments. And join the class actions against Sonos that are sure to follow.
That's exactly my feeling, subscriptions to the software otherwise you can't use the hardware. But it's a false logic. The hardware is for a LAN/WiFi setup and they've moved the controller platform to the cloud so there will always be problems UNLESS you can connect to the internet. Completely ridiculous.
So folks, I have now started to sell off my Sonos equipment. I have ordered two Homepods to see if I can live with them. I will miss the easy of use of Sonos, especially versions before S2. S2 has caused me so much issues where I suddenly can’t control speakers, music drop outs, pairing issues, app takes forever to start on latest gen Apple devices etc etc. This new app was the huge straw that broke the camels back.
It’s strange how I started with 6 Airplay devices and migrated to Sonos. Now I migrate back to an Apple solution again. I will miss the portability of the Move devices and the play que etc.
I think this moment is the start of a downward momentum for Sonos where they eventually will be bancrupt. I have recommended sonos to about 10 friends which I probably now need to help move out.
I am sure sales will go down right now. To compensate Sonos will start charging us for stuff we don’t need. This will move users away.
I give them two years, then Sonos is no more.
I am sure they will eventually fix the app sort of, but the lag introduced with the cloud control will never go away.
What is so tragic is that the actual sound experience for Sonos units is FIRST Class. Old app was 100% functional if somewhat clunky.
The new Courageous App does Sonos itself and their users a massive disservice. So terribly sad.

Any sign of a subscription and I’m gone immediately.

Thank goodness the Aptoide app store has the old version. Downgrade worked perfectly and auto updates disabled...
Phew, for now.

Hilarious. An app platform incompatible with hardware infrastructure. How on earth did they think it would work? And what happens if a crisis event hits the internet? We'd head for Armageddon in silence.

Well, I think the 'unprecedented' part has certainly been achieved! Bravo! 😝. And all within a few days! Amazing 😋
I got so frustrated! I waited for SONOS to fix the problems that they caused with this TERRIBLE update. The arrogance to act like nothing is wrong with their huge mistake. I dumped all of my SONOS equipment and installed an Apple HomePod system. Goodbye SONOS, it was nice while it lasted, but we’re breaking up. It’s you, not me.
At this point it is very clear that Sonos is not listening to our cries for making the old S2 app available for IOS. There is no Sonos employee that plans to apologize for this debacle. After I spoke with support and sent a terse response to a survey no one responded.
WHAT THE HELL!
Thankfully, I have installed SonoPhone (somewhat clunky imho) and already had built a dashboard in Home Assistant to control my Sonos system.
Sonos, stop being a flock of Ostriches and help your customers!

UNFAIR to Ostriches who possess a higher level of Awareness than Corporate Command 😝😁😎
My goodness this is a difficult app to use.
First thing I discovered is that if you play one podcast and it finishes, it will continue to play the entire library. Never did this before and that was disappointing.
Second thing I discovered is that there's been another change in behavior. What I would select a channel or station to play I would be prompted to select a room. Now it just picks one or picks the last active one which is really annoying because I do have more than one room and sometimes I live in a different room.
Overall, this is a mess. I'm reverting to listening to some content (podcasts) via Google hockey pucks because it's easier enough to forgo the sound quality. That's messed up.
Seriously Sonos, I had a working system before the update. Now I have multiple bricks that look like speakers all over the house. WE NEED THE FIX NOW!
I too had a working system. I suspect that I will have to reset all my speakers and then try to set up again. Such a waste of time. Love the sound system. Hate the updates.
For me after update whole system seems useless, cannot find devices, and if it finds few if them looses connection all the time.
I reverted back with previous version Android APK that seems ok again.
What i tried in new UI completely counter intuitive for me😬
New app really messed up a fairly well functioning system. Constantly having to reconnect commponensts. contstantly having to restart music queue. switching to/from tv/music is a disaster.
Was there any testing done at all? Have you heard of regression testing?
Do I really have to wait until mid June for the ability to fix my network?
Very dissapointing
Just adding my two cents to this unmitigated disaster of an update…
I woke up this morning to empty rows and circles on my iOS Sonos app. It said I had to log in. Neither favorites nor services. My speakers were correctly displayed and the two that were playing were showing they were playing...but because they were playing a personal, local file, the title was “No Title”. (The old app would use the file’s filename when metadata was unavailable, which was sloppy but much better than nothing.)
I forced quit the app, reopened and slowly, things started appearing. I didn’t need to sign in. I don’t remember ever needing to force quit previous Sonos apps.
However, my biggest problem with this version has been the lack of any queue. The queue won me over to Sonos in 2007. It’s the one feature I used to show off. Why in the world would Sonos think it’s okay to ship an app without a queue?
I was not worried about Sonos before the AMA “event” but I’m quite worried after seeing how that was handled.

YES! I sold the last Sonos shares from my 401k mix.
You appoint a CEO from a failed tech company (Blackberry) and think they’ll make Sonos a better company??? Sonos is going the way of Blackberry. BYE!
Oh SONOS, SONOS. Seems you're heading from bad to worse. I installed the update of the “update” today in order to have back at least the alarms. Of course alarms didn't come back...at it was needed to update also all my SONOS devices. More than an hour wasted - update was not going on throwing ERROR 1005. Reading what to do, restarting several times my wi-fi, then restarting all of mine 9 speakers and 1 sound bar, then new and new attempts to update...finally after hour and half speakers were updated. A beg you pardon we're not fan boys here to sit around your system and to suffer each and every try to improve it. If you don't know how to make it better ask someone that knows how to. If you cannot afford that - just keep it as it was. And now after the update of the “update” few rooms got disconnected themselves 2-3 times. Also stereo pair in living room “looses” one of the channels from time to time. And app is working slower and slower. I know that you know it all but from you and me - I pay for decent service and you’re the one that promised to deliver it - so please just do it.
And to not be that much on the negative side - thumb up for playing apple music lossless now (it would be nice to share with us it was compressed so far)
p.s. While writing that post two more interruptions in living room playback - when to expect next update of the update of the “update”?
