I've tried the new app, can see what they're trying to do with it but it shouldn't have been released yet, it's not ready, far too many basic features missing so I've gone back to the previous version and shall be blocking updates for the time being.

Sonos hardware is not cheap, you shouldn't be removing features from users simply because you set an arbitrary deadline to release an app that's not finished.

Wow--what a disaster!  I have over $3,000 invested in my Sonos system and I’m ready to trash it all.  When I started my journey with Sonos, there were not many options and the sound was fabulous so I continued to invest in the ecosystem.  Now there are MANY more choices so I have options.  Who could  possibly approve the release of an UPDATE that has fewer (and poorer) features than the original?!  Sooooo disappointing!

The new version is useless. The previous was pretty terrible as well, but one used to live with it. Now however, removing old features, not intuitive, crashing, error messages. Sonos learned nothing from its past debacles. I always gave it benefit of doubt. Now my patience is gone. I’m stuck with my devices for a long time ahead but there is no way I will ever purchase another Sonos product again.

Is there someone at SONOS who is willing to support the long time users and break-off with the product and concept in a way that is respectful to actual customers?

You must be joking, surely 🤣🤣🤣. Commit employment suicide? 😆😆😆

Each update removes more of the reason I bought these devices. Wifi radios in the speakers die, stop supporting 400 dollar speakers after you decide we should buy new one, stop allowing me to play my own music on my phone then in this lates release you decide to remove alarms and that ability to play music from my NAS... what exactly are you doing? Feels like you got bought by pandora/spotify and want to force us to pay for another streaming service just to have the pleasure of using the EXTREMELY expensive devices you forced us to buy.

I'm over you.. FIX THIS >>>].... NOW!

Who’s bright idea was it to push the new app out without things like alarm management?

Sorry Sonos but you’ve basically lost my trust now, I won’t be purchasing any more Sonos hardware and will transition my existing speakers away as they need replacing to a brand that respects their customers and won’t take away basic features on a whim.

What an absolute balls-up.

I know it’s far fetched, but that is exactly right.

I still miss my CR200. The bones of this thing are good, and someone who is willing to think like an owner instead of an employee could see this as an opportunity.

We can dream.

I had forgotten about the “On this Mobile Device” option on S1 until I hooked up my old Sonos Connect S1 I had laying around! That was a great feature for when people stopped by to visit and wanted to play their favorite music on my system. Might just have to downgrade my other 2 Connects to S1 and call it a day or just get rid of all my Sonos gear and start using Chromecasting with Plexamp again. 🤷🏼

Before this update new app UI I'd guess there were a few thousand dissatisfied customers complaining about the app update process. All of us knew this cockup was foreseeable of not inevitable, and made sure to turn off automatic updating.

Now sonos had probably 10s of thousands of dissatisfied customers. Smart move!

I have an extensive Sonos set-up right through my home and as far as the music side of things I mainly use my own media server. The new app is completely unusable for my purposes and I’ll be forced to get rid of all my Sonos equipment if what has been broken with this app release isn’t fixed quickly, or preferably, the old app made available again soon. I’m used to having my Sonos system break whenever the system firmware is updated and then having to troubleshoot my way through restoring everything. That was bad enough, but putting out this software update that clearly hasn’t been tested by real users is unforgivable.

Who pushed the beta version to pruduction??

Its insane the think they pushed this app with so My importen basic functions missing, like sleep timers and alamer.. Like people use those every day..

Man, this just gets worse and worse. I heard from a blind friend who uses Sonos that this shipped WITHOUT the accessibility functions he depended on (which S2 had)! He can’t use his system AT ALL. The Sonos decision-makers should be ashamed of themselves!

And is it supposed to help that their CPO is making the press rounds today saying how “courageous” Sonos is for doing this?! Ridiculous.

You know what... I may downgrade to S1 for having access to the files in my phone! I just discovered that when I downgraded to S2. It's a silver lining for me I guess

The managers for sure. This is a colossal failure in management

This updated app has rendered my system almost useless. All the albums and playlists I had setup no longer exist in it. The new search is terrible and if I go to the effort os trawling through my music library and add an album as a favourite the it still doesn't show up anywhere. In fact this update is mind-bogglingly bad. The only thing that's saved me from total disaster is that I also have the app on my tablet and I managed to get to turn off automatic updates before the damage was done.

The arrogance of Sonos is breathtaking. If they were so confident they should have given the app a new version, then glitches could have been ironed out and using the previous version would be easy.

So now I'm looking for alternatives,  does anyone know of any?

Try Sonopad

I’m looking at Sonophone/Sonopad. Certainly looks interesting. Checking that it will allow use of my local server based (NAS) library.

I purchased the iOS app ‘Sonophone for Sonos’ and I like it. Most of all it allowed me quickly to find my local network music library (on NAS). And then to use Search! This alone is worth the couple of bucks for the app.

I believe one needs to set-up the library using the in-house Sonos app - but that was done already with my Mac using the old version of the in-house app (which I have not upgraded!).

Hope this helps!

Do let us know. I’d be most grateful! ☺️

Good thing I know what I am playing and not being able to add to queue seems an odd thing to leave out. I suppose they had to add a bunch of code for the new stuff coming?

Garbage so far. I'm interested in my own library, not streaming apps. I can't even find it

I'm thinking a class action is in order if they don't allow a return to S2.  Might get 20 cents back on the dollar.

$10k in Sonos systems over 8 years - WE ARE SICK of being treated so poorly.

When I got the notice that a new update to the app was coming, I had to go to every iOS device in the home and turn OFF AUTO APP UPDATE because of past terrible experiences with half-baked, poorly tested updates!!  This one is a STINKER!!

For 2 months now my household have been holding off replacing Sonos Amps, speakers, and Ports with the latest equipment.  The order would have been over $3k.  WE HAVE NOW DELETED that wish list!!!

You only get to punish the customers who make your company/employment possible so often.  WE are done and so are my friends and family with Sonos!!!!    Sending email to the investor site and board of directors next. ENOUGH!  FIRE THE CEO PLEASE!
