Got it on iOS and Android. I’m liking the improvements. Definitely headed in the right direction.

One thing that is already bugging me though… once you touch the new volume control on iOS, you have to wait on a time-out before the little speaker/mute icon button reappears. (left side of volume slider). You can’t hit mute (can only slide the volume all the way down), until it times-out.

But surely if your intention is to mute the volume, you’d just tap the speaker symbol to mute it, and wouldn’t need to tap the volume bar at all?

Part of the ‘update the speakers’ process is reconnecting the Sonos devices to your router following a reboot, to load the new OS properly. It certainly could expose  wifi interference or other issues, no matter what hardware you use for your network. Especially due to how much outside impact there can be on a network, things you have little to no control over. I recall having to change my broadcast channel once, due to neighbors ‘stomping’ on the frequency I had been using for my own network.

I’ve now got this new update on my Android phone. I can’t find the “pin” option, is this available yet on the Android app?

My android phone had a name path for my library. Changed it to a numerical path and it eventually came back. I didn’t remove the old name path but it did on its own. Not sure what that’s all about.

Hi thanks for the reply.

I'm pretty lucky where I am,  the noise floor on the bands are really in my favour and congestion is not that bad at all.  Where I used to live in a congested area, I experienced what you mentioned with neighbours routers blaring.

Saying that, I have now reserved an ip address for the soundbar, and the 2.4ghz band channel is switched to 1.

Just a minute ago, as i was writing this typical the app was struggling to connect, i restarted the app again and all good. So something is playing up, I will tinker with the network later, however prior to the update, the system worked flawlessly.

Android app + hardware update on 15th July. A quick rollout in UK.

All good - no glitches at all. System works smoothly. Recently updated system to tri-band wifi 6, ditched wired component/boost etc. and find it very responsive.

One question - WHEN will we see hd/hi-res tags fof local library back please?

IOS

I had two glitches.  One where “Music Library” was missing and one where Recently Played showed Unable To Load Content.  A swipe out fixed both.  Has happened in the past, but very rarely.

I’ve had this happen a number of times now. Music Library doesn’t show up on the home screen “Your Sources” section. Sometimes I have to close/open the app multiple times before it reappears. And when it does, it takes more time than it should.

I haven’t had the opportunity to try the new app yet as I’m out of town. However, I’d like to say that while my expectations are looking for a positive experience I’m not going to rule out that there will be glitches. Some self imposed, others not fully understanding the app and that the app will never be perfect and will have issues. I‘ve come to expect that with any tech and especially apps. I wish I were part of Apple’s app dev team 😂.

That was my intention the first time I went to mute and accidentally hit the volume slider. Not being able to hit mute, when I REALLY needed to mute, was jarring. Now that I know what happens, I’m more careful. But when you really need to mute, you are already kind of in a rush to get to it, and to have it disappear is concerning.

My fixes are usually after the first swipe/reopen.  Usually no noticeable delay.  Guess this all depends on the network.  Mine is ISP provided gateway with Band Steering.  No speaker connection issues; Just occasional app feature glitches.

Would still like to see a queue icon on the TV audio Now Playing screen so, if I want, I can play the queue I last played before deciding to watch some TV.

Ditto for the Radio Now Playing screen

Update concerning glitches after latest app update.  I am now finding my Music Library is missing more often on the Home Screen.  Need to swipe out more often.  This is with IOS.  Will keep an eye out to see if this becomes a regular problem.

Reserving judgement on th new interface. First impressions:

  • app seems to lose connections to the speakers more when the new interface is turned on - I never get this on the old interface, but had it on my iPhone and iPad immediately after turning on the new interface;
  • i seem to get more lag when changing volume, grouping speakers and looking for music on Spotify .

This could all be on my system or set up, but for the time being I'm back to the old interface

I’d suggest sending in a diagnostic when this happens, so Sonos has something to look at when you call in.

I just have to say it: the "new" app has finally arrived on the right track. The latest updates have brought noticeable improvements in handling and daily use. The new opt-in feature is a great idea, and I've already activated it. I think the new layout is absolutely fantastic!

Keep it up, and things are definitely looking up! Thanks to the Sonos team!!

I’ll try again in a couple of weeks. If troubles persist I will call in.
