Seems like that guy is now returning them after a few days and staying with his AirPod Max.

Got mine a few hours ago! My experience:

My Android phone connects and plays through bluetooth fine, but Sonos Android app refuses to recoqnize it.

Connected it to my iPad, I was able to get recoqnition through the iOS app, I am able to turn on some features here. Such as head tracking and 2 devices connect on bluetooth.

"Paired it" with my Arc through the iOS app, but nothing happends if I try to long press the "content key" to get auto from Arc to headset. Just a few weird beeps.

Love the hardware, sounds great to me. The mulitpoint connection seem nice and smooth with switching. The passthrough and noise cancelling are booth smooth and comfortable.

Hopefully this is just because its early, but the software experience seems very undercooked atm

I would definitely hold out judgement till the official release date.  Entirely possible that there is a firmware update on the Arc that isn’t coming till then, possibly even an update on the Ace itself.

+1 need to wait to release day to judge. Apparently a bug that makes the Ace super quiet when paired with Arc, could be this.  Supposed to to be fixed for release.

Totally possible, hoping these are teething issues. I am enjoying them immensly with my phone/tablet/pc now :)  I find the switching between devices to be pretty smooth

A not so great 3/5 from What Hifi?

Pros

  • Streamlined, stylish design
  • Physical controls work well
  • Inoffensive, balanced sound
  • Okay levels of detail

Cons

  • Lack of clarity and expression
  • Stunted dynamics and rhythmic drive
  • Slightly buggy during testing
  • Average call quality

What HiFi (and others) reviews only count when they're 5 Star.

What Hi-Fi is garbage. They’re not a reliable source.

The review from SoundGuys is in, all but confirms that unless you have a Snapdragon Sound compatible phone (which you likely do not), the only codecs supported are SBC and AAC. Hugely disappointing, Sonos.

Peter Pee

Peter Pee is a really good and honest reviewer and well educated. I believe what he has to say more than the Engadget’s and WhatHiFi?

I don’t really see Sonos wanted to turn the Sonos app into a player outside of your home since that doesn’t really sell any speakers for them.  Perhaps a subscription service, but would anybody want to pay for that?  That’s assuming that all the various streaming services would even want to be included in such an aggregator app, instead of having users use the app they’ve develop.

I 100% disagree with this. It is one of the things I am desperate for and why I use the Sonos app exclusively whenever I can and long for a way to do so outside my home. The idea of having everything in one place with all music sources, search, etc. is very compelling to me. I would gladly forgo that extra 20% of control and detail that a specific app provides to have the simplicity, consistency and usability of a one app that does it all solution provides. I often find that the Apps like Apple Music are way too cluttered and a lot of what it shows is for the masses and not my individual tastes.

Yeah he’s a reviewer you can generally rely on. Also MKBHD linked below is trustworthy IME. I’ve looked at most reviews posted here and on reddit and thy are pretty consistent that they are good sounding headphones as expected.  For some reason I can’t update and edit my earlier posts so will just add this here.

I’m not sure what you’re disagreeing with.  I did not say that customers wouldn’t be interested in the Sonos app being a player as well as a controller.  I’m saying that I don’t think Sonos ever doing it for the the reasons I already stated.

I misunderstood your point. I apologize for that. I do think having an all in one app would help sell speakers if properly promoted. As I stated, I know I would prefer an all in one app but that’s just me.

Plastic?! Like the rest of the headphones?! *le gasp*

I'd rather have that against my ears than animal skin, but each to their own, I guess.

As in other threads, some people are so pissed off they are grasping at any reason to bash Sonos, attempting to drown out any mere inkling of positive because they think it somehow dismisses their anger.  Don’t worry, it happens every time Sonos overhauls the app, and aside from one or two psychos who hold on to it for years, most fade out after a couple months.

Yeah. There are genuine reasons to criticise Sonos. Attacking them for using imitation leather is reaching.

Serious question, what’s the other option they had?  Either some kind of soft leather (totally unacceptable to me) or the ‘plastic’ option they’ve gone for (that’s also biodegradable I would imagine)?
