Zones with Sonos Move

I have two sonos moves and two sonos ones... I'd love for them all to be in a zone, but the moves aren't listed in the products that are compatible? Why? The moves give great base and work well as good base drivers in liu of a dedicated sub, which is why I went with it. Sure, yes, I can do a Group, but this gives flakey reliability when using Spotify, so I'd love to setup a zone. Is there a future where the move can be added to this list?

I’d hazard a guess that the portable nature of Move and Roam speakers means the Zone would constantly break when a portable speaker is taken away from the rest of the zone.

Zones were originally created with business customers in mind.  It’s my understanding that the feature was brought over to the consumer side because it was rather easy to implement at that point.  Since Moves are not really useful for businesses, I don’t think it was considered to make sense for a zone.

There could also be some technical limitations, specifically around the fact that Move is portable and thus maybe can’t really be relied on in the communication between speakers in a zone.  Perhaps that will change.  Either way, Sonos will rarely announce features like this in advance.

If you’re getting flaky reliability streaming Spotify to a group there is definitely a local network issue. Why not tell us about your network. Please be as detailed as possible.

Well this is actually in a commercial setting - I’m using it in my yoga studio. I chose to go with two moves and two ones with intention. The ERA100 and Ones, while great, don’t have as good as base as the moves do. Yes, I could get a sub but I didn’t want to take up the floor space, so I went with the part-way solution of getting two moves and two ones.

Now I have 15 teachers using apple music/spotify and connecting to the wifi nextwork. Often the groups don’t show up, or show up mis-matched… so now the teachers go into the Sonos app, re-initialize the group, then continue as normal. Not a big deal, but it’s a step that I wasn’t expected. The wifi in the room is actually excellent, I’ve tested it all around with both a speed and ping test with 100% success rate.

I think four Fives would have been a better solution in your situation. They provide better bass (base) than all other Sonos full range speakers.

while they may be a little more money, they are worth it IMO.

if you need Bluetooth this would not be the way to go, but Spotify Connect works fine.

Your email implies you researched Sonos’ capabilities before your purchase, to know about the sound of the speakers and the “zones” capability. So, I’m puzzled that you now bemoan the limitations.

As far as the WiFi/grouping reliability is concerned, human bodies are great absorbers if WiFi signals. Can you use wired Ethernet connections?

We already had a move and two Sonos one’s in our possession. I inherited the project from someone else.

Bemoan may be strong… I did say “not a big deal” but would like to get rid of the extra step. I did know about grouping and presumed it reliability, but recently learned about zones and how it may work better. There is no issue with WIFI reliability as we’ve been using them for a week with no dropouts - plus the moves don’t have ethernet… this isn’t the problem I’m having.
