Sonos Roam reset results in brick

Why is it so easy to accidentally reset your Roam when trying to turn it on or off and why does it not at least remain as a Bluetooth speaker.

I’m unable to use it until returning to the home WiFi. Lovely brick to have on my travels.

I’m not sure that it is that easy to accidentally reset the roam when simply turning it on or off.

In order to factory reset the Roam you have to press and hold the play/pause button whilst you press and release the power button to turn it back on. I’ve never accidentally reset the Roam as there’s no need to press and hold the play/pause button when attempting to turn on/off.

Unfortunately, Roam does not have the ability to be a Bluetooth speaker straight after a reset. I’m guessing that is a hardware issue, as I assume if it was purely software then that functionality would have been made available from a firmware update.

The multi-functional power/bluetooth button is a poor design, but remedied in Roam 2, which also allows the device to be used via Bluetooth without first requiring Wi-Fi setup. Roam 2 is a much better device than its predecessor for those reasons alone.

I believe this poor design choice was fixed in the Roam 2.
