Sonos Roam isnt charging- using correct power source

Hi- anyone know if there’s a fix for Sonos Roam not charging. It was working perfectly then all of a sudden stopped charging. Nothing I do will let it get any charge or even get enough power to do a reset.

I have two Roams and I’m using the right power adapter and sonos cord. One Roam is charging fine and the other just has a flashing orange light of death.

I have had it on charge for 2 days and can’t get it to respond at all except with the orange light after pushing the button. I’ve called support but just end up on hold for a long time. I’m on hold now as I write this.

They have no suggestions. Their final response is provided below. Based on the comments in this forum, it sounds like this is simply a common fault in the product.

Thank you for the pictures provided. After checking I can see that your Sonos Roam is no longer covered under the warranty, however, please have in account that we have changed our out-of-warranty process method. Previously, customers with an out-of-warranty RMA received a 30% discount that could only be used for a replacement of the product or the current generation of that product.
Now, the customers will receive a 30% coupon to purchase a new device from the website. (The coupon details will be provided via email as soon as we receive the defective unit at the warehouse).

You can even purchase any multi-player bundles in the Sets category of the online shop for 30% off, including a surround sound system. However, please be aware that if you use it on a shopping cart with more than one item, it will only apply to the most expensive item. If you would like to proceed please share with us the following information:
- Full name
- Best contact number
- Shipping address information

If you have any questions or run into any other issues, please do not hesitate to contact us. We are always happy to assist you.

Hi I’ve have my roam 3 months and it’s just stopped charging - will get a replacement but not sure if I should bother as it seems like it’s a fault with the actual product.

It’s totally dead and won’t turn on :(

Same problem here. Roam 1 yr and 9 months. Won’t charge. Using Sonos wireless charger which works. Tried other chargers. Spent an hour doing useless tests with a help rep. that’s was obviously resting from an instruction sheet and doesn’t know the product. Waiting to see if / how Sonos will resolve this issue. At the price of the Sonos, expected better quality.

Have you tried the 25sec + power button long-press Roam reset (when off it’s charger), followed by a 30 minute charge with a PD USB-C charger (power output between 2A/3A x 5V (10W-15W)) …and then repeat the two steps again, to see if that brings the Roam’s battery back to life?

Same problem with Roam as described by others. I can’t believe it, but the suggestion above actually worked for me. It woke up at 12% battery despite being plugged in to the factory charger for several days—at least it’s powering on now.

I’ve just picked up a Roam from an outlet store, I can return it if needed. I’ve plugged it in, amber light is on but it’s only drawing 0.1w? Very flat battery or does it sound faulty?

Looks like I am in a bad spot. Just got to the beach and cant get my Roam to charge. Had blinking orange light yesterday and to day just a solid orange light all night. Will try a longer press to see if it resets. Fingers crossed.

I got my new Roam2 yesterday and charged it I say outside loving the music etc then I thought I’ll keep the charge topped up with my power bank. I plugged it in the orange light came on and then went off I tried twice and gave up. I took it inside and it charged ok.
I came to this forum to seek a reason why the Roam2 won’t charge off a power bank then read all these reports of the thing bricking.

This worries me as a chose Sonos thinking it was a premium product after my JBL 6 bricked after six months. JBL helpline is misnamed it is no help. I’ll just have to hope for the best.

I think I have a new idea as to why sone Roams are not charging.  Mine has the same problem  I tried quite an assortment of chargers.  Int he evening I got intermittent charging with USB-C.    The only variable that changed was room temp.  So I thought, what if the battery temperature sensor is bad or miscalibrated.  Since it protects the battery from overheating, it may be shutting it off at room temp (80 in my house during summer).

SO I put it on my weakest Qi charger and put it in the fridge overnight.  Voila! it went all the way to 100%.

So try it in the fridge to see if my case is a one off.  If repeatable, sounds like a hardware issue.

I just tested it again.  Put it outside on the same charger, and it lost 10% am hour.  In the fridge again, and it is happily charging.  Any others try it?

Hi @Stewart-J

Sorry to hear of the issue you are having with your Roam 2. However, as you have a Roam 2, you are a little off-topic for this thread. In addition, “all these reports” are about Roams, not Roam 2s, so they don’t necessarily apply to your speaker. I recommend you start a new thread.

However, the first thing I would check would be the maximum output current of your battery pack - if it is not at least 1.5 amps, you will likely encounter issues with charging Roam from it.

I hope this helps.

So having tried all mentioned above, got through to Support “Live” chat, not Bot chat!, and immediately able to address my dead speaker by resetting it.  Removing any wireless or wired charging and then pressing and holding on the On/Off button, at the back of the ROAM, for at least 12 seconds.  The Orange light activated and then Roam came back to life and immediately connected to my phone and Im happily listening to some brilliant music, again!!
