Every other time there’s an update to the app, my Roam won’t create a stereo pair. I’ve had them for a a long time and used them a lot as a stereo pair. For whatever reason when I have to update the app, they won’t work until there’s another update to the app. Then, they work again until there’s another update to the app. It’s really frustrating because I use them all the time. Multiple times I’ve tried factory resets on both speakers, deleted the app from my phone and created a new system. My 2 Roam just won’t create a stereo pair right now. Hopefully it will get fixed again with the next app update.

Your best plan would be to submit a diagnostic then contact SONOS phone support.

You can also try changing the Room name of one unit before you attempt to pair.

The factory reset isn't going to solve the problem so you may as well skip it.

Make sure to recreate the issue after any factory reset and before sending the diagnostic as it wipes out the needed internal data.

Do you ever send Bluetooth audio to either one of the Roams? If so the stereo pair is broken as they do not support that function in Bluetooth mode. To get them back you have to add each Roam to your Wi-Fi as separate rooms then create a stereo pair. Stereo pairs with Roam is only possible when they are on Wi-Fi.

Frequently, but not always, one of my Roams doesn’t receive an ‘update’ as can be powered off. I’ve gotten to the point where I connect to the stereo pair first, before running an update, so both receive it.

Hey Zrfranke! Yeah, that’s a common headache with the Roams lately — every big Sonos app update seems to break stereo pairing for some users. It’s usually tied to how the app and firmware sync version info between the two speakers. You’re doing the right things with factory resets and reinstalling the app, but here’s what’s helped others: after the update, make sure both Roams are on the same firmware version (you can check that in the app under System → About My System), then reboot both speakers and your router. Once the network refreshes, try pairing them again.

If that still doesn’t work, you can pair them temporarily in Bluetooth mode as a fallback, but yeah — it’s likely something Sonos will patch in the next update. You’re definitely not alone on this one!
