Question

Move 2 Speakers will not play music as part of a group via WiFi

Relatively new sonos user. I have a home system with 2 zones of hardwired speakers driven by sonos amplifiers. Just added 3 x Move 2 speakers that I will place in various rooms for regular use and frequently use as a group of 3 for sound on a patio area that has good wifi reception (same network). The move speakers work well individually indoors and outside and also work fine when grouped with one of the amplifiers / hardwired speakers. When I try to group a Move 2 speaker with another Move 2 speaker, it works for a few seconds, then the audio only comes from one of the Move 2 speakers, even though the app shows additional move 2 speakers are still connected and playing audio.

The entire use case for the Move 2 is based on using as a group of 3 outside, so I want this to work reliably.

OK… here are two scenarios. Please indicate which one best describes your situation…

1. Are you grouping the Move 2 speakers in conjunction with the hard wired speakers and then trying to group in additional Move 2’s ? If so how are you trying to initiate the grouping?

2. Are you trying to group the Move 2’s independent of the hardwired speakers?

Trying to group the Move 2 independent of the wired speakers. Primary use case is 3 x Move 2 in a group for the outdoor space.

I would recommend that you submit a diagnostic within minutes after the issue occurs.  Then you can contact support, give them this diagnostic number, and they will have some good insight into what’s happening.

I don’t recall seeing this issue before, so can’t give any concrete advice.  It seems like the router doesn’t like when several devices are communicating together, sharing outside data.  Perhaps some sort of security setting?  Just a guess.

Are your amps connected to the router over wifi, or are they connected via ethernet cable?

Not to negate the advice given by @melvimbe but if you haven’t done so when Grouping the Move 2’s try this…

1. Start the music on one of your Move 2’s

2. Make sure it shows in the now playing screen at the bottom of the App.

3. Select the speaker icon and check mark the other two Move 2’s and click save

Best Practice IMO (although not required) is to group using the lead speaker via the App.

Check the signal quality for each of the speakers. This will vary over time and with speaker location. When building a Group, start with the speaker showing the best connection. I realize that this is a tedious activity for users, because the tool utility is limited. SONOS support has access to better tools.
