DId I just waste $366 on a Sonos Move 2? I have a Port, Playbar and a Move 1 all working seamlessly. Products are rather pricy so I buy something when I can and decided to get the better sounding Move 2 and just keep the Move 1 in my bedroom. I just got the Move 2 today and it installed perfectly, it loads the playlist off my drive connected to the router like it should, but when I try to play anything from that drive I get an “Access Denied” error with no explanation of how to fix it. This is where I ALWAYS play my music from and it works fine on all other devices. If I can’t play music from my external drive on my Move 2, should I just return it? If it does not play that music, it’s worthless to me.
As fellow users, there’s not anything we can do to analyse your network setup. The Move2 certainly should be able to work alongside the rest of your system. What does Sonos support say?
What NAS are you using?
Well I’m not directly using a NAS. I have a Netgear Nighthawk 7000 (probably 11 years now) that I have an external hard drive plugged into. I had an issue with the phone app not loading from a playlist, but I found it would play flawlessly from the same group of songs loaded in the favorites. That said, I’m able to do everything just fine, but maybe my setup is too old to support the Move2. So if I’m looking at upgrading the network, I was thinking of a Netgear Orbi 770 which does not support an external hard drive. So question … I don’t know a lot about the “NAS” setup, so can that be setup with the Netgear Orbi and is the a Sonos preferred hardware?
A NAS is not dependent upon a specific router type per se. I use Netgear NAS, it's just a matter of tuning the settings when initially setting up the device.
Thanks for the reply. Setting up a NAS may be the best way to go, but then it’s another technology I have to learn about. It just seems cleaner to just have an external hard drive plugged into the router after all, isn’t that the reason they created that ability in the first place? Also, until installing the Move2, that setup was working perfectly. My current thought is my router is just too old to support the newer communication technologies so I’ve decided to update my router. I was going to go with Netgear Orbi since that is compatible with Sonos, however those routers do not support external hard drives. After researching more, it appears the Netgear RAXE500 would be a perfect fit for the Sonos application. Hopefully I can get that new router set up to do everything my old one was doing and also include my Move 2.

It’s obviously your decision but the Netgear NAS devices work virtually out of the box and provide much more options with regard to RAID etc. Either way, please come back if you still have issues.
I do want to thank for everyone’s input on this. It’s comforting to know that there are people that actually do want to reach out and help. I am still keeping the NAS device in mind, but I do feel it’s time to update my router anyway since it is already about 12 years old. So if I still need the NAS device, I will have an updated router in place to work with. Again, thanks to everyone helping out.
I prefer a NAS, rather than a stick that hangs out of a box. NAS can have much more capacity than a stick. On the negative side a NAS requires more power, requires some time to boot up, and occupies more space.
