The only reason I'm looking at Sonos now is that for sound bars and home theater they continue to rise to the top. Sonos offers features and performance that the other competitors do not. And since I'd have to switch to a whole new system anyway if I chose another brands component. so in that sense the S2 app is a complete switch, like going to a different brand.

Going with a different manufacturer is as much of a break from my existing system as going with Sonos. It is the upgrade offer that makes the difference. The conclusion I made was at the price point my 30% discount gets me the Sonos system is the best choice for me at this time. Sonos needs to prove themselves even more. If it wasn't for the discount they might not even be on my list.

Which is an interesting story, but it has absolute zero to do with the subject of this thread.  Please stay on topic;  the new features in the latest update.

I got up this morning and tried to play Pandora. It gave me an authentication error, saying something was denied. Pulled Pandora up in my browser, and it works fine.

Tried to remove the service from Sonos on my Windows box. Asked me to login to Sonos. Tried to do that, said my login was bad. Got on the phone, and went to network foolishly thinking I’d see something there, had to set all three speakers back up again which took 10 minutes. Pandora still doesn’t work. Finally managed to remove it.

Spotify works just fine.

I just removed Pandora as a service (from my phone) and tried to add it back. Won’t add. Also, my voice assistant that I’ve set up like 4 times is not working either.

The error is “Something went wrong - Check your Internet connection and try again.” My phone has Internet and so does this computer, obviously.

Tom, I know software is hard because I write it. That said, Sonos seems to have some people working on it who have a very odd idea how to build and release software. I’ve found Sonos consistently confused about state, messaging, forced retries in setup, constantly demanding I have to update the software all the time and the layout of the app on the computer is just  space wasting, at best.

When it works, it’s great. When it doesn’t, well, better schedule some time off to do surgery on it.

How do you not leave a device behind when it lacks the internal resources to accept newer software versions, much less new features? Even then they offered a 30% discount for folks wanting new devices.

If you dislike Sonos' policy on upgrades and long term support I don't understand how you can then mention the other brands you did?

There is no issue running S1 and S2 on the same network or controller device. Third party controllers may offer integration of the two.

The last bit sounds like you missed the  whole "new CEO" saga at Sonos.

Her it it is after a through review.

I applaud your effort and not changing the the foundation of the app and just rearranging the UI. I think is a valid and relatively safe way to create a more enjoyable experience for the users which is us, me. I started 10 years ago and built 6 zone Sonos system for our newly constructed home. As such I have always used the Sonos1 app felt left behind when the new app came out and my hardware was left behind. I still have the components today but in a different much smaller home. Today I only really need 3 zones. Garage. Living room TV and yard.

I've come to the point to I'm looking for an upgrade the for my the OLED TV in the living room. Until now everything in the Sonos sphere that I had purchased 10 years ago is still working and meeting my needs. To be honest when Sonos moved to a new technology it left the original owners behind, disregarded, I was a little miffed. I also became really that the S1 would constantly ask me if I wanted to upgrade and then tell me my did not have compatible components. It was ever present when I opened the app An annoying, added needless redundant and continuous friction to the use of my system. Sonos by continuously nagging me about the outdated app and hardware only succeeded in was  pissing me off every time I open the app. A company that nags its customers shows disrespect for their customers.

I understand it was probably some accounting or marketing person that insisted a reminder always need to be up font and continuous until I the customer gave in to the nagging and completely changed all of my functioning and performing hardware. I was pissed at Sonos every time I opened the app. I have however been following Sonos, there growth and integration of new technology as advancements in the AV world became more demanding both audibly and visually.

Sonos product's and wireless integration have always been top of the consumer audio category. Every company has had there stumbles and pissed off customers. So in that sense Sonos is no different. I greatly appreciate the fact that you're still offering discounts from the components of my old system. I continue to use and enjoy my components But the lack of all but the minimum maintenance to the s1 are starting to show. I only wish I could there was just one integrated app and can have two systems operating simultaneously in the house.

Sonos online help says that it is possible to have both simultaneously operational on the same WiFi network. I assume that that means you will have to have both apps But I'm not sure if they can and cohabit peacefully on the same device. I have been doing research on other sound bars and wireless home theater systems. the Sonos Arc ultra consistently achieves a top 3 rating form different reviewers.

It’s come to the point I believe Sonos beats out Bose and other top sound bar/ home theater contenders like the Samsung Q900 series when they are near the same price point.

I give Sonos kudos for there discount program but they need a less expensive before I replace my original amps, which is my entire system.

With such a nice discount through the upgrade program the “Premium Immersive Set with Arc Ultra” is at a very good price point and seems the best choice for my living room. The room audio calibration process  seems like great way to Tune the system to a non standard positioning of the TV and speaker's. The ability to place the sub anywhere including next to or under the couch can allow for some experimentation and optimum positioning for the unique space.

I applauded Sonos for continuing to advance its technology but they should not forget their loyal customers. As a matter of fact as I research the sonos sound bar I came across many YouTube videos that asked the question, “can Sonos be trusted to care about its customers”, so its not just me.

Technology especially in the Audio, visual and wireless arena is constantly advancing and changing. But the one thing that will never change Is that success will continue to rely on a company that is customer focused. Accepts any failures because they will they come to all companies but the ability to put ego’s aside, recognize and pivot. Learn from it adjust and move forward. All too many companies have at the top have large egos that can't except a mistake, Failure, an incorrect choice, or way of viewing things that is not based on the evidence in front of them Increases the chance of failure and decreases the chance of success. It's an all too human failing. It always seems we learn more from our failures than we do from our successes.

TLDR.  Besides not using speech to text, try to boil your points down to make them a little more succinct.

Sorry but until you support all my S1 and S2 products I am not interested.  The app can't connect to Tidal and can't connect to my NAS anymore either. My biggest gripe is that the Connect that bridges my hifi to Sonos will be useless if I switch to S2.

All I now use the S1 app for is grouping rooms.

I'm sticking to Volumio and will continue moving over to that room by room. At least that does work with all my devices as a stop gap.

Open up your ecosystem fully with proper APIs and let other vendors work with your devices properly. Stop trying to brick older devices.  Support your users properly.

When you propose conditions that were an issue 7 years ago and are now very far in the rearview, one can assume a company has already accounted for your loss a long time ago, and (rightfully so) saw it as a cost of doing business in order to advance the company.   It would be like telling McDonalds you won’t go there anymore because they cancelled the McDLT.

@Tom Conrad have you actually tried using your own product? Quality assurance in the product development for the app must be non-existent. I put out $1,600 of my hard earned cash and ended up with a system with very limited use. I have the the Ultra on my tv which works since it is directly wired to my set, but sad to say the app still sucks wind. My 2 Era 100’s that I use for streaming stereo are constantly unavailable, offline, missing, or the system is no longer available - and to top it off no amount of jiggering and resetting helps fix the issues. To make things worse, it works one day, and the next you sit down to listen to music to relax only to find some other component missing in action. I think I can help though, I don’t like to offer problems without solutions; I am a Technical Delivery Manager and customer experience guru. Let me work with your teams to put together a straight forward interface that has properly labeled features and navigation, and on the tech side I can bring concepts of built in quality and frequent updates to address the many issues you have with Wi-Fi networking and lack of proper testing leading to reduced customer satisfaction. I would also look to start an advanced beta group for pre-releasing versions just to make sure we got it right (all the cool features are less impressive if they don’t actually work). - Regards, Paul

@DesperatelySeekingFixes

Would you like to tell us about your network. Is it YOUR equipment or ISP provided.

If ISP provided

  • Is it a combo router/modem
  • Is it a main router and satellites
  • Have you added your own router (with or without satellites) connected to ISP gear

If YOUR equipment using only the ISP incoming signal (Modem or Fiber box)

  • What brand of router
  • Is it Tri-band
  • Is it a Mesh setup consisting of main router and satellites (how many)

There are other questions to be asked. However, we need the above information first. Also, it would be better to start your own thread detailing your issues along with the information requested.

Also, know that community members offering assistance are not Sonos employees; nor part of Sonos Tech Support. We are users just like you.

Looking forward to YOUR new post! 😊
