Favorite music for the holidays?

Hey everyone!

Notice the tweaks in the group's name and vibe? Things felt a bit slow, so we thought, "Why not mix it up?" We're expanding the group's horizons for some fresh vibes.

To start things off, I snagged the idea from Kumar's old post: How about we chat about our go-to holiday tunes for 2023? Do you have a playlist that's your festive season anthem, or are you hunting for some new jams? Personally, Spotify's “Radio” is hit or miss for me when I want a specific vibe. Some folks suggested Deezer's “Flow” as an alternative, but I haven't given it a spin yet to see if it nails holiday music suggestions.

But hey, who better to get inspired by than all of you! Scrolling through old posts about holiday tunes, it seems like there are loads of awesome suggestions that break the mold of the same old songs on every radio station.

Did you catch that we're teaming up with Deezer users to create an awesome playlist as part of our holiday event? I'll make sure to share it with you all once it's cooked up 😉

So, spill the beans, folks! Any suggestions for what should be on everyone's holiday music radar?

Drop your recommendations below! 🎶

Here’s four songs that Jane and I pick to play most years in the run up-to Christmas…

Happy Christmas/Holidays Everyone…🎄🎄

Not sure if you are serious @Ken_Griffiths,  but I swear Paul McCartney wrote Wonderful Christmastime as a social experiment testing if the public is so brainwashed by his Beatle-ness that he could get a horrible song with no redeeming qualities to chart by virtue of his name alone.

Of course given recent events (and even not given), the very best modern Christmas song is:

It was Christmas Eve babe, in the drunk tank . . .

I have to put down what SWMBO 🥰 wanted here too, otherwise I perhaps might not get to see Christmas.

I know my place ha ha😀

Love Fairytale of New York too - I put that track forward for the Deezer/Sonos playlist. It’s a must to include it, especially so, this year.

It’s amazing how such a dark, depressing song about two pretty unlikeable characters can bring so much joy.  Shane was a master of writing that type of song, where one is so downtrodden and broken, yet hope is still there, being expressed through the music, not necessarily the lyrics.

And we now have a playlist created from the event post

This is a great foundation for a fully fledged “Holiday Mix”.

I intend to merge this playlist with the recommendations received in this thread. I'll unveil the mix as the holiday departure date approaches, ensuring everyone has some great tunes to enjoy during their travels to the celebrations or while preparing for the arrival of guests.

I discovered how much more engaging music videos are on such occasions. I have my own X Mas curated YouTube playlist of about a hundred videos, best watched in shuffle mode. I am not sure if folks here are interested, but here is an attempt to link to the list:

I’m running a collection of the Concordia Choir of Moorhead, Minnesota's Christmas albums here on most of my Sonos. Too old, and it is too cold to go see them live.

I like how quite a few of these playlists are propper performances/music videos. I can imagine this playlist being perfect for playing on the living room TV, serving as a kind of 'white noise' with interesting music videos for the kids to watch. Meanwhile, it provides adults with topics to comment on and keeps the conversations going.

Quite, and with the volume turned down, but piped across to different zones in an open plan space it allows for the music to not start to grate on the nerves as such can after some days! In my case, the TV is in the patio adjacent to the open plan space, so that works even better.

Myself I love the Trans siberian orchestra for Christmas tunes. Been to a few of their concerts but can't remember if they have a YouTube video.  Fabulous songs. Merry Christmas all.

Mark Ronson made sure we now have a christmas-y version of a very iconic song from one of the biggest movies this year 😂

Hey everyone, guess what? The weekend's here! 🎉

Some of you might be prepping and setting off for the holidays, while others? They're probably already on the move. But if you're one of those kicking back, waiting for guests to drop by, hats off to you!

I've gathered all the songs from both our German and English groups, combined them with the Deezer playlist, and now we've got a solid setlist for the celebrations! Can't wait to see which tunes we'll jam to next year!
