My Arc CANNOT decode DVD/A, SACD/5.1, DTS/CD, or BLURAY AUDIO

IT can decode DD/5.1, DD TRUE/HD, & DTS/Video

WHY?

See this link for the Sonos Home Theatre Audio Formats…

https://support.sonos.com/en-us/article/supported-home-theater-audio-formats

Have the connected TV, or player, pass-through, or transcode, them to one of the supported audio formats.

How can it detect something that’s not there? If whatever your watching or listening to does not produce what your looking for then it will not detect. I may be not completely understanding your question thoroughly though. When I want to listen to Atmos I have to look and see if what I am watching is producing Atmos. Perhaps I am not quite understanding your question correctly and if not, sorry.

I’m strictly referring the to DISCS; not TV audio

I hear you on the sound for sure. Nothing like listening to a song produced in Atmosphere or lossless. I would post this in one of the Sonos groups and see if there is someone there that can help. They do have some people in there that really know their stuff. Try that bud and find out . I don’t know if you have joined one of those groups, but I have found lots on there regarding my Sonos system. Give it a try and see. Sorry I could not help you but maybe your tv settings?  Heck them out and see and maybe download a new app as it could be the problem and I read that some guy had to download a new one twice to get his system going. Only trying to help here.

It’s probably down to your hardware or settings @cpr. I can play DTS and Dolby TrueHD discs on my Sonos Arc - my TV allows those audio formats to pass through its ports and out the eARC port to the Soundbar. An example of DTS is attached, whilst playing a Blue-Ray disc here.

I said I CAN PLAY Dolby/True/HD, & DTS VIDEO DISCS, not DTS/audio discs

Off the subject a bit but has anyone noticed an improvement with their sound after the last update? I really noticed my gen3 had a deeper sound and the dialog seems to be clearer coming from my soundbar.    Let’s just hope the rest of the updates improve our systems.

Here’s a further example from a Blu-Ray movie “I am Legend” showing Dolby TrueHD uncompressed audio codec.  Note: this requires an HDMI-eARC connection for this codec.

Dunno then - maybe see what Sonos Support say. I’d perhaps reproduce the issue and and then immediately submit a Sonos system diagnostic report from within the Sonos App, note it’s reference and then contact/chat with Sonos Support Staff via this LINK and see what the Staff can perhaps suggest to help you to resolve the matter. They can perhaps see what the audio format is that the Arc is receiving and then maybe go from there.

So Ken, you don’t have an Ark ?  I had a beam when I stared out which was around February or march of last year but you sure learn from others on here and in the groups. As I mentioned, try asking the same question in one of the groups and see if they have some answers or more so an explanation. Good luck

For sacd specifically, when playing it back on the tv, if the TV is receiving DSD from the player, then the TV will need to convert it to PCM 5.1 for the arc to decode it. The Arc doesn’t support DSD streams, so pass through of the sacd DSD stream won’t work

There was someone who successfully played sacd to their arc via a Sony tv, using a Sony bluray player. screenshots of their TV settings and player settings are in the thread.

I just read this and may explain your issue,

To answer, maybe but it gets complicated with SACD tracks over HDMI.  Open the s2 app, hit gear icon at the bottom right, then system settings, now look at audio in.  Let us know what you see during the multi channel later on the SACD.

Here's where it gets tricky the blu-ray player is converting DSD to LPCM over HDMI on the fly. I have the x800 m2, very similar really. I would be shocked if Sonos and LG could pass through or even receive 1bit DSD 2.8-5.6mhz signals.  Sonos doesn't support anything below 16 bit depth / 44.1kz from their own language.

All this is irrelevant because you are sending DSD as LPCM though, so it appears to work but not in the purists of ways if that makes sense.  If you ever heard pure DSD you would know (have you, just curious since you do own some super audios)

Funny thing is ever since owning my Sonos surround set up this year I haven't tried a single SACD, yet.  Now  you have me interested in listening to Dark side of the moon in 4channal surround all over again. Thanks!   (Will report tomorrow to see if the app sees DSD or bitrate).

Let me know if this makes sense to you as I am not a tech expert but the more I read the better I understand this stuff.

I have a similar setup: Sony XR77A80J, Sony UBP X1100ES, & my Arc through HDMI 2.1 eARC

THERE IS ZERO SOUND THROUGH THE ARC, with the setting you pictured

when I play through the TV , it’s PERFECT

From the thread I posted, for that person with their combination of Sony player and Sony TV the TV appeared to support DSD.

Sony don’t advertise or list DSD support for any of their TVs, yet for him it worked and nobody can explain why other than the TV performed conversion.

In theory when your X1100ES has DSD Output Mode set to Auto it should automatically output DSD or PCM depending what the connected devices support.

When playing on your TV what audio format is shown? In the pictures in the thread his TV showed DSD Multi in the top right, even though Sony don’t list it as a supported format for their TVs.

If your TV shows DSD Multi the Arc will only play if your TV converts it to PCM.

In your player if you change the “DSD Output Mode” to “Off” which tells the player to convert to PCM then it should pass through the TV and play on the Arc.

Based on your TV and Arc specifications the only way you should get sound is to have the player decode the SACD DSD stream to PCM as neither list support for DSD.
