What is the best way to connect a Sonos Beam to a Foxtel iQ4?

Hi there, I have a Foxel iQ4 box, a Sony KD-49X8000H and a Sonos Beam (gen 2) soundbar. I currently have the Beam connected to the TV using the HDMI-ARC output. This configuration appears to work well, but I’m interested in getting the best performance from my system.

Q1. Is this the best way to conect the soundbar to the TV?

Q2. I have the option of sending audio from the TV to the soundbar in either PCM or compressed Dolby format. Which is the best option to use for the Beam to optimize sound quality?

Thanks, Andrew

Sure, but I was just wondering if the Beam preferred the data to come in as pcm format or already converted to Dolby format by the TV/iQ4. Is the Beam 2 smart enough to do the conversion, or does it require the data to be already converted?

Welcome to the Sonos Community!

As long as you see Multichannel PCM reported in the Now Playing screen of the app, it does not matter. If you only see PCM, however, then you are only receiving stereo sound.

If the stream arrives to the Beam as Dolby, then it will likely sound louder as compared to PCM.

I hope this helps.
