Hello as the topic says I Upgraded system to Era 300’s with my existing Arc. Set up my 300’s with full anticipation set up some music and did hear a noticeable different. A bit more fuller in sound.

Then I watched my favourite TV’s which I do way more then listening music and my hearth sank beneath the bottom of the earth straight into hell itself. Did i just get scammed?

The tv shows are often 5.1 digital. Not atmos. The ones do not support Atmos, so for the few things i do watch in it and love hearing, I thought hell  yea, i can afford to upgrade, lets do it! But its NOT a upgrade!? The 5.1 digital shows so far I hear nothing in the back, even at +15 volume on the surround option, nothing, the One’s were so much better! And the content on all the streaming are often 5.1.

I read that the central speaker of the Eras gets turned off when put into surround? Fine, if thats what makes Atmos work/hear better do it, but if its not, turn it back on!? Please? I got a feeling that THAT are the speakers I would need to at least get the same performance as the One’s. Unless iam doing something wrong. I hope so but i fear i do not.

There should be massive bold letters on the selling page that this will be your experience if you upgrade from One SL’s.. cause this feels so bad… for this kind of money.

I am puzzled.  The Ones are compatible with Atmos, in that when used as surrounds, they will contribute to the the overall sound as instructed by the Arc, which does all the Atmos processing.

The Ear 300s only do the Atmos processing when used as standalone speakers or a stereo pair, I imagine that the better sound quality and upward firing speakers in the 300s would bring a bit of improvement, but I would not expect it to be transformational.  I certainly would not expect the sound to be worse than for “vanilla”5.1, and cannot think why that should be.

When you say that you’ve increased the volume, can you confirm that you are adjusting the Surround Audio for TV level? Have you checked the Surround Distance settings are correct?

I dont know mate, I dont know why it is much much quieter then before. I know for a fact it is though, unless iam (not) hearing things. I did try to find information as if it would be a upgrade for me doing surround with 300 vs One SL’s. I didn’t get a single decent answer, but with black friday deal it was buy or not buy. I hope it would be better..

yea 0.6m - 3m and then +15 tv and +0 music.

I guess what i could do it put back one SL and then compare the sound from Right back and Left back  one being Era one being SL. See what happens.

You can only add two devices of the same spec as surrounds so you would need to change both.

argh well then I guess i could do a comparison if I really want to make sure what is happening but even then if i prove it.. what then?

To be honest, I personally notice the difference mainly with Dolby Atmos connect when my 300’s are connected as surrounds.  There is a real difference when setup as a stereo pair.

Do you watch any Netflix of Prime? Most shows are 5.1 digital something from what i saw in the sonos APP, then there was next to nothing coming from the back. Could be the recording of the show didnt have it, but i doubt that a little bit.

Yes I watch both Prime and Netflix.  Try a Jack Ryan film as a test

There does not seem to be a Jack Ryan film on Netflix, there is on Prime, Jack Ryan Shadow Recruit but that is buying/hire.

I have a 4k Fire Cube and there is a free Jack Ryan fil in 4k that I always use to test.  Perhaps it’s a country or account restriction.

Maybe! BUt I got some good news. Fiddling around the web, i found someone say that the lobby scene in the matrix is good to hear stuff in surround, and he is right to some extend, its a 2.0 output, but i could hear things in the back. Then I went into Better call Saul. a 5.1 series and at first I heard quite a bit of music sounds, then nothing in the next scene then thank god a clear and good example of an echo type sound when he was in the bathroom, THAT is what i wanted to hear, then I know 100% sure that its just the way it was recorded of what ever show iam watching, not a sound system error.

Though i still find it odd it shuts down the middle driver .. i mean wouldnt that add more sounds? Or is that driver specific for voice lines?

Voice is 99% out of the Centre channel, which in your setup is from the Arc, this is why the driver is disabled.

Very good to know! You seem very knowledgeable maybe you can answer me this that isn't related to the topic but I heard that the required apple OS is going to be 17 not 16, does this mean if I buy a iphone 8 that is max ios16, i cannot use it for trueplay when the required sonos iOS will jump to 17?

Sorry but I don’t know much about iOS, perhaps @Ken_Griffiths can help better.

If the plan is to get an iDevice to use with TruePlay, then see this Sonos Support link (and any links off it) for compatibility:

https://support.sonos.com/en-us/article/trueplay-compatible-devices-and-sonos-products

Anything less than iOS/iPadOS16 will not support TruePlay tuning (subject to change). Sonos tend to support the iDevices up-to a year, or so, after Apple stop supporting the product themselves.

TruePlay tuning is quite often just a "set-once & forget" feature for most situations, so if you’re not normally an iDevice user, my suggestion would be to perhaps borrow an iDevice from a colleague, friend, or family member to do the tuning of the necessary rooms and hand it back.

Aye that would be the best, sadly I am one of those people with a network of 1 person, and that person has an android like myself. I guess i could post something on my flat whatsapp but there is a reason i havent done that yet haha… O dear.

It stores the trueplay settings on the devices itself? I gotta do it again when i get a Arc Ultra in one or two years.. maybe i should wait untill then if i cant find one now instead of buying a product, even second hand, those apple tax stuff is expensive..
