Trouble setting up Symfonisk surrounds with Sonos Beam2

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to set up two Symfonisk speakers as surrounds for my Sonos Beam (Gen 2), but the app won’t let me complete the setup.

Both speakers are visible in the Sonos app and work fine individually. When I try to add them as surrounds, it's working but after i have in the app for Symfonisk surrounds Not connected status

Any idea what could cause that?

Thanks for the help!

Huh. That’s odd. I’d disconnect them (such as they are semi-connected) as surrounds, so they show up as ‘normal’ speakers again. Then I’d double check to ensure the entire system is updated, by checking for updates in the controller. Make sure the radio/wifi on the Beam is not turned off.

You don’t mention which Beam you have, but a quick look at the FAQ for the Beam gen 2 states:

Which Sonos speakers work as surrounds?

A matching pair of the following speakers will work as surrounds: Era 300, Era 100, Sonos One (including SL), Sonos Five, Play:1, Play:3, and Play:5 (Gen 2). You can also use Sonos Amp to power in-wall, in-ceiling, or other passive speakers as surrounds.

There is no mention there of the IKEA speakers. I don’t know if that extends to the Beam gen 1. I could swear that I recall others using them, so I’m wondering if it has been removed from the FAQ because they’re no longer sold…but then none of the PLAY:x speakers are, either. I dunno.

At the end of the day, if none of the above helps, I would call Sonos Support to discuss it.

When you speak directly to the Support staff, they have tools at their disposal that will allow them to give you advice specific to your network and Sonos system.

I can vouch for IKEA Symfonisk speakers working well as surrounds. They should work on the Beam, as they use to work on my old Playbar.

I do sometimes find after firmware updates that they can take a while to reconnect but they always do given time. But it makes sense to try the advice @Airgetlam suggests, to ensure they’re all on the same firmware and up-to-date.

If that doesn’t help, what I find helps when the Symfonisk won't show as connected (but are showing as part of the surround set-up) is to turn them all off at the wall, leave for a couple of mins, then turn them back on - start with the Beam, then once connected, turn on the two IKEA speakers and give them up to ten mins to gather themselves.

@JamesAdams

Also ensure you haven’t turned wifi off on the Beam (in the Sonos app) as it needs its wifi left on to communicate with the surrounds via its own dedicated 5Ghz wifi.

The beam and the symfonisk are connected with wifi no ethernet cable

Just as a precaution, both these IKEA speakers are the same model?

I’m curious, what did Support say, when you called them?
