surround sound setup

Recently bought a house with the in-ceiling speakers (Sonos architectural by sonance) in my living room. I was excited to get my surround sound setup when I was told that it would not work because I have my AMP wired into my master closet. What can I get to have the speakers in the living room work as surround sound. I’m aware I’ll probably need to buy other speakers but I wanted to get this for a Father’s Day gift.

I’m assuming the master closet is too far away/obstructed to get the 5Ghz signal from your Sonos ‘front’ system, be that another Sonos Amp, or one of the Sonos soundbars? You could wire both the front system and the Amp in the closet with Ethernet cables to your router, and the data could travel that way.

If you have a compatible SONOS soundbar or AMP in the front, wire both to the network. Here are some AMP details.

Could a soundbar (wired to tv and Ethernet) connect via WiFi to the amp?

The soundbar won't use wifi if wired to ethernet, it uses Sonosnet instead.

The hidden 5 gHz connection to the surround Amp is a bit short ranged but worth a try, if it is iffy then (as above) wire both to Ethernet.

Sonos uses surrounds only for rears, and even then only the sound is meant to go to two speakers. If there are more speakers you could think about only connecting the speakers that are behind your seating position.
