Has Sonos lost the plot, the new app is rubbish.  Tried to listen to Beethoven’s 5th and I couldn’t get the speakers to go on full surround. Apparently this function has been removed?

I wouldn’t think so. I’m assuming you’re playing the music from a streaming source, and not from the TV?
It shouldn’t make a difference if you’re using S1 or S2, they’d both function the same way. I’m  wondering if for some reason the music setting got changed for your surrounds, and is set to ‘Ambient’ rather than ‘Full’. Have you checked that setting in the ‘room’ for your PLAYBAR, under ‘Surrounds’?

If you’re streaming the music from the TV set, there are quite a few other things to check.

Have you called Sonos Support to discuss it? What did they suggest?

When you speak directly to the Support staff, they have tools at their disposal that will allow them to give you advice specific to your network and Sonos system.
