Sony Bravia Sonos Playbar Lip Sync Issue

I have a Sony Bravia TV and Sonos Playbar and having persistent and very annoying lip sync Issues. Can anyone detail the settings I need to be using? Thanks

Hi @Manfred1621

Welcome to the Sonos Community!

Sorry to hear of this issue you are having with lip-sync on your Sonos system.

It is possible that this issue can be resolved by simply rebooting your TV - please unplug it from power for at least a couple of minutes. This will make the TV’s software restart in a way that Standby does not acheive.

I hope this helps.

There is a TV Dialog Sunc in the Sonos app.  It’s in Settings ( gear icon ) - Sonos room( Room with soundbar ) - TV Dialog Sync.

@Manfred1621

It depends on what kind of sync issue you are having. Is audio too late or the picture too late?
The Sonos TV dialogue sync option will let the audio „wait“ longer to be output. So that will only be helpfull if the picture is too late. But as far as I know in most cases there are sync issues with audio playing too late. So I recommend to check your tvs settings for a different sync option that can let the picture wait. But most tvs also just have an option to let audio wait longer.

There also is a sync option on Sony tv models you can try. Maybe that will work better.

You could also try to turn off any picture enhancing features on the TV. These might slow the picture down compared to the sound.

Good point, but in that case the additional audio delay option indeed would help.

Lip sync issues between your Sony Bravia TV and Sonos Playbar can be frustrating, but adjusting a few settings may help. First, go to your TV’s Sound Settings and look for the AV Sync option to manually adjust the delay. In the Sonos App, navigate to Settings > System > [Your Playbar] > TV Dialog Sync and fine-tune the synchronization. Also, try changing your TV’s audio output to PCM instead of Dolby Digital, as some TVs introduce delays when processing surround sound. If you're using an external device (like a cable box or streaming stick), connecting it directly to the TV and letting the Playbar receive audio from the TV via optical cable can sometimes reduce lag. If the issue persists, updating both your TV and Sonos firmware might help improve performance.

Get a better TV or better source device (unless the TV also the source device).

I hope I don’t jinx my current good results, but I think I have resolved the lip sync issue, tested against my different video sources.  I want to thank the community for their excellent guidance.  I made the following setting changes to apparent success:

In Bravia TV:

Settings, Picture & Sound, Audio System Settings, Digital Audio Output (Set to PCM)

In Sonos app:

Sonos, Playbar, Home Theatre, TV Dialog Sync (Set to level 3, midpoint of range)

Fingers crossed; I hope the lip sync issue doesn’t return.

Thanks

Hi @Manfred1621

I am happy to hear that you are seeing an improvement, but please be aware that setting the Digital Audio Output to PCM means you will only ever get stereo sound, and never surround sound.

I hope this helps.
