Hi everyone,

I recently moved into a new apartment that provides internet for each unit via AT&T Community WiFi. I have my own unique password to access the internet, but I’m running into issues setting up my Sonos system.

I have a Sonos Arc and two Sonos One speakers, which I’m trying to use as surrounds. However, they won’t connect properly, and I suspect the issue is related to the internet setup. Here are some additional details:

  • The apartment’s Ethernet ports do not work. I was told that when the building’s internet was set up, the wiring was not labeled, so it would be a long process to get them functional.
  • I’ve tried setting up the speakers over WiFi, but they won’t connect as surrounds.
  • I’m wondering if the issue is due to the shared network environment in the building.

Has anyone dealt with a similar issue? Are there any workarounds I can try to get my Sonos system working again? I really miss using them! Also, I am not the best with technology so I feel really screwed here.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Sonos doesn’t support guest networks, which I think is what you’re effectively running. Get a travel router and add your Sonos devices to that wifi/network instead.

My son recently moved into a complex with a similar internet setup.  I’ve thought about experimenting and see if I could put in a travel router that could create a private wifi network  using the guest network access, but my son didn’t seem to interested and I don’t want to be tech support for no reason.

Just ordered a travel router. Hopefully I can also connect my Hue Bridge this way too!

Thanks for the suggestion. Fingers crossed it solves my connection issues—I've been struggling to play music to my Arc from my phone due to constant disconnections.

Shared Wi-Fi is really testing my patience!

It worked!!! Thank you all 🙌🏽

It’s starting to feel more like a home.

Be careful. When other tenants find out what you’ve done, you’ll become their teach “go to”!
