Hi I own a beam 2 and I am getting 2 era 100. To configure them as a home theater if I understood correctly the steps are as follows: I connect the first speaker in the same room as the Beam 2 then I connect the second and then I go to the create surround option. But in the end do you have to do True play or not? At the moment done for the Beam 2. And do I have to set in ambient or full? I would use them both as a music listener and as a surround obviously for films. Thanks. Andrea

I’d suggest trying Ambient and Full to see which you prefer.
Personally I like Full but the downside is that you lose some of the Stereo image.
I think that the Era 100s are impressive and that is why I like them in full mode when I listen to music. With my Beam Gen 1 they really fill the room. Note I do also have a Sub Mini.

Ok thanks but if I leave it on full to listen to music for example from Apple Music and then I want to watch a movie in Dolby Atmos for example do I have to put it in ambient or can I leave it on Full? in full do they always work as surround if there is a multichannel track? Thanks. Andrea

Full/Ambient is for music play back only Sonos will base playback when watching TV on the signal it is receiving so you don’t need to worry about that.

I believe that Sonos recommend that Trueplay is run after any change so I would run it.

Yeah, it varies depending on the mixing, but generally sounds great.

OK, seriously…
I have my main media room set to full, as when listening to music in there I’m rarely in the stereo sweet spot and the more even sound levels from Full help. I’d even like a mono mode for party use.
I have my office set to Ambient as I’m almost always in the stereo sweet spot but I like a bit of sound from the back. The Sonos Ambient mode gives me that, not as well as a full AVR with multiple sound-fields to pick from but it is decent.

You are missing a key point here. (A stupid point to be sure, but essential.)
A room is not the same as Room. (And isn’t that special.)
Yes Sonos made it confusing for no good reason. (Calling them Zones was not confusing.)
So you can set up your new Sonos in any room (that is room of your house) but each Sonos Room (only a stupid label for the device’s assigned name) must have a unique name.
Once joined to your Beam in a home theater system all will then show the same Room label, no matter which room of your house you have them in.
And some folks don’t understand why I hate folks in Marketing with a passion.
