sonos beam disconnecting surround play1 speakers and sub from my wifi

  • reset and re-adding 2x play1 and sub to my accounts via S2 app works as a stereo-pair with sub.
  • adding these speakers to my beam as a surround speaker and sub worked but now the play1 and sub units disconnect from my network

so others here have had the question which goes unanswered; so it might be a transient outage?

was working and though I think there haven’t been changes to my network, it seems that now the speakers are disconnecting from the network….

Routers get confused when a sub or surround discommects from wifi and connects to the 5 gHz Sonosnet created by the soundbar to provide a low-latency path and avoid audio delays.

Transient outage would be a local thing, there is no ‘round trip’ to Sonos. Your surrounds and Subwoofer would be directly connecting to your Beam, using a hidden 5Ghz network. You might be experiencing some sort of wifi interference , your speakers could be too far from your Beam, or there may be a failure in your Beam.

I would recommend that you submit a system diagnostic within 10 minutes of experiencing this problem, and call Sonos Support to discuss it. Don’t post the resulting diagnostic number here.

There may be information included in the diagnostic that will help Sonos pinpoint the issue and help you find a solution.

When you speak directly to the Support staff, they have tools at their disposal that will allow them to give you advice specific to your network and Sonos system.

went out, came home, watched some TV.

decided to put on interstellar and before doing so, I decided to try and pair my sub back to my beam; just to see if I could get back some low-end sounds for the movie. I did pay a thousand dollars for the privelege of getting those frequencies back after all…

sub paired back. astonishment.

then, satellite speakers paired right back up too.

more astonishment.

especially considering I had not made a change to the network.

I had not made a change to my phone.

I had not made a change to my speakers, power, internet, Wi-Fi, phone, ipad, electricity, nothing.

But it came back?

I wonder if it could have been something outside of my control? maybe something outside of my house? Maybe….just maybe, sonos cloud?

I guess I’ll never be able to prove it.

I love Sonos products - it honestly feels like they work on magic.

I really don’t see why “the cloud” would have any impact on your speakers. They link via WiFi. When set up, the soundbar creates a dedicated link to Sub and surrounds speakers.

“Outside of my control” is possible - wifi interference by other networks or electronic equipment inside or outside of your home.
