I recently purchased a Sonos Beam 2 to pair with a new TV (Hisense U8N). Set up went fine (connected via HDMI to eARC), and the product sounds great.
However, previous speakers I had were better able to produce crisp dialogue, and I was hoping that the Speech Enhancement feature would be able to produce something along those lines.
However, I am able to discern absolutely no audible impact when I toggle the Speech Enhancement feature on and off. Is this normal? I don’t have a great sense for how apparent the impact should be. Again, based on prior experience, my assumption was that it would be audibly apparent when flipping it on and off, but it is not. I’ve tried this across a variety of different audio sources, including cable TV, Netflix, Apple TV, etc.
I spent about 2.5 hours on the phone with Sonos support, submitting diagnostics, unplugging and replugging everything, doing a factory reset, deleting the app, etc. Have tried all apparent combos of Speech Enhancement with/without Night Mode, TrueTone, and various EQ settings. Nothing seems to make a difference.
At the end of the call, level 2 support indicated that all diagnostics appeared okay from their end. They said they would continue to discuss it further and would try to come up with something. They also suggested that I consider returning the product, although I’m not sure it is still within its return window.
I guess what I am trying to determine is when folks toggle it on and off, can you immediately tell if you’ve done so? Am I wasting my time looking for more of an impact to the feature than actually exists?
I’ve searched YouTube and haven’t been able to find any video demos of what it sounds like for other folks when they toggle it on and off. Note that when I toggle Night Mode on and off, I can hear a difference, although it is pretty minor. I’ve yet to really notice a difference either when toggling on/off the Loudness setting in EQ either.
Thank you.
