Hey all. I’m debating ways to utilize speakers I already own for my record player setup as additional tv speakers. Is that possible? I have a Sonos Arc for the tv, and I was thinking of getting a Sonos Port for the record player, but I’m not sure if that would technically work.
Thanks!

Directing TV audio to any speaker Sonos or not there will be a 75ms delay causing an echo effect if all speaker are in the same room. If the speakers are in a different room you may not notice the delay (echo).

To your question….

  • What is your Turntable currently connected to such as an AV receiver with Phono input or powered speakers?
  • Also, unless your turntable has a built-in pre-amp you’ll have to purchase an external pre-amp in addition to the Port?

Not recommended for TV sound because there will be a time offset between TV output and output from the added speakers. Depending on model, you could configure two identical speakers as surrounds for ARC. This will eliminate the time offset, but Line-In on surrounds is disabled.

Thanks for the reply! So, basically the only/best use of the Port is to have your record player and anything out of your Onkyo receiver played all over your network?

Yes, PORT or any other speaker (not configured as a surround) with Line-In will support the turntable. Note that the 75ms time offset between Line-In and Line-Out and any SONOS speaker output applies. If your ONKYO has a “Tape Monitor” function, pretend that PORT is a three head cassette deck. This will work around the offset for regular speakers attached to the ONKYO.
