I have an LG G4 OLED TV paired with a Sonos Arc soundbar, which needs to be controlled through a Crestron Home system. The soundbar is connected to the TV via HDMI 1 eARC port. The TV alone, without the soundbar, is controlled by Crestron Home without any issues. However, when I connect the soundbar, the only audio function that works through Crestron is Mute, and there is no volume control. As a result, the client, despite having an automation system, has to use the TV remote to adjust the volume.

All firmware on both the Sonos and the TV is up to date, and I have also tried changing the HDMI cables. I would appreciate any ideas or if anyone has had a similar experience.

Is there by chance an update to the Crestron software? It sounds like a malformed command being sent to the TV, which then isn’t being sent properly to the Arc.

Does the volume work properly when using the TV’s remote?

Unfortunately, I don’t have a Crestron system to do any testing against.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply, the Sonos volume works properly using the TV’s remote.

Could be bossible change the HDMI Arc at the Sonos Bar with Optic cable, makes it sense?

Thanks

ARC (volume) messages can not be carried across optical connections, due to bandwidth concerns.

I think I’m interpreting your request properly, but it isn’t as clear to me as it should be. Nor do I work for Sonos, so have no insight as to whether they can affect such a change.

All Sonos devices that have been connected via optical (PLAYBAR, PLAYBASE, and Ray) have required an InfraRed (IR) command to modify the volume. The same would be true for any ARC enabled Sonos soundbar that uses the optical adapter for connection.

It’s possible that some manufacturer has figured out a way to stuff ARC data across an optical connection, if so, I’m not familiar with that, but the Sonos optical to ARC adapter isn’t part of that.
