I have an existing home theater system ( Sonos arc sound bar along with my Sonos 5 as surround sound. I want to increase the punch on my sound. Can I integrate the Sonos amp to my system and so how will I connect it correctly??
Not sure I understand. You can’t have one speaker (this Sonos 5? There is no such speaker) as a surround. Surround always requires two of the same speakers to be set up. Otherwise, you’re merely in a situation where you group them. Which would cause a delay between the two ‘rooms’, when playing the TV, but work well when streaming music.
What ‘punch’ are you hoping to achieve? Is this only for music, or are you trying to increase the ‘punchy for TV as well?
Sorry didn't come out right. I have two Sonos play 5 as my surround speakers rear and I would like to boost the power on my tire system. I currently also have the arc Soundbar with subwoofer and I was told by one of the texts in Best Buy that I can connect and get more power out of my entire system. Is that possible?
The punch I'm referring to is both the TV as well as the music I normally stream from Spotify
I hope they’re PLAY:5 Gen 2 speakers ;)
There really isn’t any way to ‘add’ anything to punch up the TV watching, other than adding another Sub to your system, and adjusting the system settings. There is always the the speech enhancement FAQ, and the night mode FAQ, which may help for the TV watching aspect, as they will have affect on that input.
For music, any S2 (current) production speaker will group well with your system, and increase the ‘punch’ you may be looking for.
I’m not sure what the Best Buy tech was suggesting, if I were to guess, they were trying to boost their sales, and weren’t speaking from knowledge.
There’s another thread that I just responded to that suggests a current volume issue with Spotify. I’m not a subscriber, so I’m not sure, as I said in that thread, Sonos uses the same code to play back all sources, so if there’s a perceived difference between one stream and another, it’s likely to be the source, and not Sonos. Of course, in your case, you’re dealing with two inputs, the digital HDMI-ARC from your TV, and the stream coming across the internet from Spotify.
But beyond that, you should be able to get all the ‘punch’ you’re looking for by just turning up the volume. The Sonos should be sagpfe all the way to 100%. Probably wouldn’t hurt to run a TruePlay session on your devices using an appropriate iOS device, but that’s not going to make a huge difference, in the grand scheme of things.
Thanks Bruce for the info. I already did the the truplay and adjusted the EQ to my liking.. My system the way I set it up sounds amazing . Just was confused in how to use the Sonos amp. I was under the impression that I could get more power output and depth with my existing system. And yes the play 5 are gen 2. Thank for you help
“Punch” is often used to describe the amount of bass delivered. Mother Nature is not fair and the best SUB “punch” location may not be the best looking arrangement. Play a thumping bass track and walk the room close to the walls. You’ll soon discover some locations deliver more “punch”. Placing the SUB or listener at one of these locations will result in more “punch”.
Thanks for the tip but I did that already. Maybe the word punch was not the word that I was looking for. Maybe I was looking for something like more depth and profound perhaps? When I I'm looking at movies. I like to feel the intensity of the movie. The clarity as well as the music I hear not sure if you understand me
I don't understand you, you keep using words made up by the audiophile bunch that mean nothing.
Do you want more stereo separation and volume? Drop the soundbar and use an Amp with high efficiency speakers.
Do you want more, or more even, low frequency sound? Properly place a Sub or two.
Tell us what you want in real terms, something an audio engineer would understand, not something picked up from the $30,000 turntables are essential bunch.

I try to CTRL A then C (select all and copy) before hitting Send, if I forget to the odds of the forums eating my post seem to go up.
Hard to do on an iPad, I fear.
Well that isn't handy at all. My Apple thing only comes out to do trueplay and I'm about done bothering to do that so I'mno help there. And since "the boss likes it" calling for the forum to be fixed isn't a promising option either.
You learn, occasionally, to cut and paste anyway (especially when using the translate function). I’m not always successful, and end up in

Did some more research and I mislead by tech at Best buy. Led me to believe that by getting the Sonos amps I could actually boost the levels if sound with my existing system which I presently have. Arc Soundbar/ woofer and my play 5 for surround. I completely understand how the amp works now if you wanted to add a pair of passive Quality speakers removing the soundbar.
I have an inherent mistrust of any ‘tech’ at Best Buy. It’s a gamble, certainly, they may know as much as I hope for, but there’s a significantly greater chance that they don’t, and are just selling product.
