Remote control configuration failed with Sonos Ray

Hello everyone,

I'm having trouble setting up my remote control with my new Sonos Ray.
My TV model is TCL NXTFrame 55A300W

- I disabled Bluetooth on the remote control, so it now only works in IR mode.
- I connected the Sonos Ray to the TV using an optical cable.
- I configured the sound output to optical only.
- The remote control learning function does not work on the Sonos app.
- I tried hiding the receiver on the TV, but that didn't help.
- I tried moving the remote closer or further away.
- I tried quickly pressing the + button, but that didn't change anything.

Has anyone else had success with this type of TV/remote?

Thank you in advance for your help.

That certainly sounds odd. The only thing you didn’t really mention is making sure the IR receiver point / sensor on the Ray has visibility to the remote. Which should be fine, as long as your Ray isn’t in some obscure orientation or location, the IR connection in this case is between the remote and the Ray for volume commands, since they’re not carried across an optical connection (not enough bandwidth, so not included in the specs).

But then there have been other threads about issues with TCLs, so I’m not really sure, I think I’d call Sonos Support to discuss it.

When you speak directly to the Support staff, they have tools at their disposal that will allow them to give you advice specific to your network and Sonos system.

Hello,

Thank you for your reply.

I didn't mention it, but I am sitting directly in front of the sensor on the Sonos.

Today I tried using an Apple TV remote control, and it was recognized, but after a few minutes it stopped working properly. Only the mute button works, not the volume.

I still feel like the infrared part of the Sonos is temperamental.

I'll try contacting support directly.

Thanks again, and have a good day.

Any sunshine or bright lights, particularly halogen, hitting the sensor?

Not on Sonos, but other devices we have had to craft a shade to protect it from IR heavy light.
