Out of my wits trying to connect speakers together

I've been using my Sonos 5.2 setup with an Arc, 2 Sonos One SL and 2 Subs for the last 4 years and its been working great.  I noticed that one of the Sonos One was not connected, decided to do a factory reset and connected it to the system, and it won't show up.  I thought I was doing something wrong.  Kept on redoing the whole factory reset until I realized that the Sonos One was getting added but creating a separate system.  I don't know why this is happening.  So I decided to factory reset all of the devices and connect them one by one.  First the Arc, then the two subs, then the Sonos One and lastly the other Sonos One.  All but the last Sonos One connected to the same system.  And this other Sonos One keeps creating its own system to connect to.  I have been trying to figure this out for the last 2 days and probably have been at it for 10 hours now.  Any help or suggestions will be appreciated.  I have restarted my network, rebooted my modem and router to no avail.

Okay guys.  So I may have found a solution.

As with other posts regarding this issue, there’s a few different problems that seems to be common.

  1. multiple systems being created unintentionally.
  2. password for network is correct but sonos says its incorrect.
  3. products not showing up.

In my case, I have a Sonos Arc SL, 2 Sonos Sub Gen 2, and 2 Sonos One SL.  So I have been avoiding changing anything on my router since I didn’t want to deal with the hassle of having to reconnect and troubleshoot every other connected device to our home network.  One thing that I did decide to try was to isolate the network by disabling the 5Ghz so that the network is mainly broadcasting at 2.4 ghz.  And voila, issues 1, 2 and 3 was resolved.  I was able to connect all products to the network.  And then after testing everything, I went in to my Deco app (router) and made sure that the Sonos device only connects to 2.4 ghz.  After that, I re-enabled the 5 Ghz and no issues whatsoever.

Hopefully this helps someone else who is pulling their hair out of their wits trying to get this to work.  After 3 days and a total of 13 hours…I finally got it up and running.

Thank you everyone.

What do you mean by “new system”? A new system would require different sign-in credentials from what you were using. Step by step how are you trying to add the Sonos One back into your system. Also, factory resetting your speakers isn’t doing any good so stop resetting them.

So this is what I mean by 2 systems. I have been able to add the arc, 2 subs, 1 sonos one, but for some reason, when I try to add the other Sonos One even though its in the same network, it keeps creating a separate system for it. And I’ve mentioned, after multiple attempts, it keeps on repeating the same result.

I think you’re using the incorrect process to add your other ‘room’. Go ahead and factory reset (again) your lone speaker. Connect your controller to your remaining system, then go into the controller and use the ‘add a device’ process, in the controller. Do not use the ‘create a system’ or whatever it says, you’re only wanting to add a new ‘room’ device to your existing system.

It may help you to read the Sonos terminology thread.

@yonsantos

Thanks for responding.

@Airgetlam is correct you are somehow following the wrong process to re-add your Sonos One.

First of all….how you were able to create a “new” system is quite frankly beyond me to understand; if you were only trying to re-add the Sonos One. You should not have seen the following options:

  1. Create/Setup a New System
  2. Join an Existing System

The only time you are offered those options (in your case) is if you have deleted the Sonos App from your device and are re-installing it. If that is what you are doing it isn’t necessary. IF, you are re-installing the App you need to select Option #2.

However, to simply add a product to your Existing System follow @Airgetlam advice to factory reset the Sonos One; then follow the instructions in this link.

After you have added the Sonos One to your system you can assign it as a room or as a surround to your Arc.

Note: In order to setup both Sonos One’s as surrounds (again) they both must be listed as individual rooms before you can add them as surrounds. That said you may have to factory reset the other Sonos One and re-add it to your system following the instructions in the link above. To add them as surrounds to your Arc follow the instructions in this link .

Thank you both for your response.  I do understand what you guys are saying.  However, the image above was to show why the other sonos one was not showing up with the other ones.  I am not adding it by setting up a new system.  I would be in the system with all the other speakers, I would add the product, it would go through the process of adding it, but once added, it would not appear in that system,.  It shows up as being added to a different system.  I have done it multiple times and for some reason, this speaker keeps creating its own system.

OK, Understood. You should call Sonos Tech Support as something is happening during the process that I can’t see. Good Luck!
