I am not getting Dolby Atmos at home. My setup consists of a Sonos Arc, Sub, and 2 Era 300 surrounds. I have the highest subscription to Netflix and a Samsung 4K TV from 2017 (UN65MU6300). When using Netflix on my television most of the movie/series titles produce 5.1. When I select any of the content that is displayed in 5.1 and I go to my TV settings, the highest audio output that is produced is Dolby Digital+ which I imagine is not the same as Dolby Atmos. Am I not receiving Dolby Atmos because I have an older TV, or does this not play a factor? Do I need a TV that has can broadcast in Dolby Atmos? Thank you in advance for your feedback.

The 2017 Samsung TV is not Dolby Atmos capable.  Tried to send a link to that info, but the post was sent to be reviewed by monitors.  I don’t use nasty 4-letter words!

Thank you for this. I will check out the link. After scouring all over online, you would think it would be clear that a TV that can handle Dolby Atmos would be a requirement. All that I kept seeing was 1) I needed the highest streaming subscription, and 2) A setup like a Sonos Arc that would broadcast Dolby Digital. I need came across anything that suggested I needed a TV that could also handle Dolby Atmos content.

So is this all Samsung model TV’s won’t broadcast in Dolby Atmos regardless if I buy a current model from Samsung?

If you have a subscription to Apple Music or Amazon Music Unlimited you can play Dolby Atmos music ( Apple calls it Spatial Audio ).  Most of the Atmos music content sounds awesome through the Arc surround setup like yours.

I have a subscription to Apple TV+, but my Apple TV is not the 4K one, so when I play content from their movies, it can only be broadcast in PCM. Does that mean I would need to upgrade to a 4K Apple TV?

Looks like the monitors put the posts in with that Samsung link.

All Samsung TV’s from 2019 onward support Atmos DD+, and all eARC Samsungs support lossless Atmos as well.

Well, my TV from another brand doesn't support Atmos and I am still able to get Atmos on my Beam 2. You can try setting the output to the ARC/eARC port (not TV speakers) and setting the output format to Passthrough (or something equivalent in Samsung's terms).

The settings on my TV does not have anything named passthrough (I think because it's from 2017), only HDMI-CEC. My television also has only ARC, not eARC if that matters.

I read that Dolby Digital+ takes Dolby Atmos and compresses the signal. If I was actually getting Dolby ATMOS, it would appear in my Sonos app as Dolby ATMOS and not Dolby Digital plus, correct?

Yes, it will appear as Atmos. And no need for eArc. Arc is fine enough.

As for the audio output format, instead of passthrough, bitstream maybe? You could also share some pictures of your audio settings, if you wish.

Yes, in the sounds settings I can choose between bitstream or PCM. I have been using bitstream, whereas before I was using PCM. I’m not sure that I could tell a difference to be honest.  I borrowed an Apple TV 4K over the weekend. The show we are watching is broadcasted in Dolby ATMOS and Dolby Vision. On my older Apple TV HD, all I could get was audio out PCM, and my video was in 4K. When I used the 4K Apple TV, the audio output was in Dolby Digital 5.1, so there was an upgrade there. However, I was expecting the Sonos app to display Dolby Digital+ since my TV can output Dolby Digital+. After speaking with a tech friend, and communicating with those on this forum, I believe that I have come to the conclusion that my TV cannot handle Dolby ATMOS and that an upgrade is required if I want to experience the full effect of Dolby ATMOS, and Dolby Vision.
