My ARC has scared me away from casual listening

In all honesty, this old thread is spot on to what happened to me the other day: SONOS Arc: Loud Random and Bone Chilling Noise | Sonos Community

Out of NOWHERE the system went bonkers, maximized the volume and I can only repeat the wording from the original poster: “Its the most unsettling noise I can imagine, instantly gives me chills and even as I'm typing this, I'm getting chills just thinking about it.”

I managed to stop the madness through the app after 15 seconds or so. Resuming the current Spotify track also resumed the inferno and of course you can´t pause the “music” immediately again since the app becomes non-responding for a few seconds until the silence comes to save you.

I´ve been using my Sonos system more or less daily the last four-five years or so with problems limited to minor things that I think all on this forum can relate to if I should list them. But this sound from hell was at a completely different level! And I´m not kidding in the thread subject - I am reluctant to start the music in the living room where the ARC is placed, because now all of a sudden I have a bad feeling in my stomach, all senses on alert and that is NOT what you want. Not at all.
My current solution is to activate all other speakers throughout the house, but the living room where the ARC, the SUB and the two ONE´s are living are left out. Cant be trusted anymore.

Again, this has not happened once in roughly 4-5 years until yesterday. With that as a background I suspect that my activation of Lossless quality in Spotify is what triggered this horror story as I added that to the configuration just a few weeks ago.

Can I disable lossless again? Of course.
Is it reasonable that I should be forced to do it in order to enjoy music without being on my toes? Not so much….

So - Anyone else that has experienced this lately?

I'm so sorry to hear what you're going through, especially at this time of year... 🎃

Thanks for sharing, because from what I've read in the thread you mentioned, it's not uncommon. And, at least knowing this, the effects of the heart attack could be lighter.

Knowing the situation can't be pleasant, I laughed a lot at your descriptions of how scary this noise can be. Let's never lose our sense of humor! 😅

Thanks for the support.

I´m however sorry to say that there is NO WAY you can prepare for this. Thereby any foresight of limiting the effects on your heart and your general wellbeing is low to slim…
I used to see myself as a strong and independent man. If someone from the past (a couple of days ago will count as “the past” in this scenario) would have talked about any sound as bone chilling I would have probably not have taken them very seriously.
That independent man is now way more anxious in his natural habitat, and he would definitely listen with open (and damaged?) ears to anyone that expresses noise related concerns.

How about that as a sonos-related evolution?
Live and learn, but I will surely keep my fingers crossed that you @Triticale never have to learn the hard way that I did.

Stay safe out there :)
