Hello @Cuziamindian, welcome back!
I am sorry to hear about your experience with your Sonos Home Theater setup and the Sonos App when using your PS5 Pro and Nintendo Switch 2, although I am a bit confused by the context of your post.
On my nintendo switch 2 I get linear pcm 5.1 on the app while playing in game. In audio settings menu and audio output test the switch doesn't detect it 5.1. It says i have stereo, but when i play test tones it plays sound through all 5.1 channels but app and switch show stereo pcm during this.
Can you please clarify on the above? Which App is showing 5.1 audio? What do you hear from your Sonos HT setup? What does the Sonos App show?
When you play the test tones from the Nintendo Switch 2 and the Sonos App shows Stereo, what happens is that your Sonos HT setup is receiving Stereo audio and it is upmixing it to play on your Sonos Beam (Gen 2) and the Play:1 surrounds.
That is not true surround audio.
Please let me know and I’ll dig around to see if I can find some information for you.
I do not own a Nintendo Switch 2 so I am unable to check and test around the audio settings of that console, but I do own a PS5 Pro and the below settings I’ve got work like a charm on my LG TV:
- Output Device: HDMI Device (AV amplifier)
- HDMI Device Type AV Amplifier
- Audio Format (Priority): Dolby Atmos (for games that do support this format, although personally I’ve never bothered to change it even if they don’t and the surround audio works perfectly) / Linear PCM
I have read sonos may not get along well with some samsung tv, is that my issue?
There’s been issues with some specific Samsung TV models, although I cannot confirm if what you are experiencing is caused by that, or by configuration settings. Since you are getting Dolby Atmos audio, it might be something else.
With my response, your thread moved to the top of the latest activity list, maybe another Community user will chime in, who’ve managed to get their Sonos HT setup and Nintendo Switch 2 to work properly together.
You can also reach out to our Support team after submitting diagnostics and they can tell you what your Sonos HT setup is reporting.
I hope this helps.
Thank you for the response! I do believe it's being upmixed, as well.
To clarify, when I refer to app I mean the Sonos app. The HT does output different channel tones during nintendo switch output test, but the switch detects the TV only has stereo. I don't think the Sub is being used during this test tho, sounds like the test noise comes from the beam for the Sub channel. The Sonos app also shows stereo pcm during this test. When I launch a newer game, however, the Sonos app shows lpcm 5.1 but I've yet to hear any actual audio from rear channels during this time, nor any subwoofer use.
I will mess around with the ps5 settings today, as of now they match your settings (except i have atmos selected) and atmos sounds great, tho I have not checked for any audio delays. Will try to to switch to pcm and see if that works out correctly, my understanding that pcm is better for gaming as it is.
Truly appreciate the help
Update: Changed settings on ps5 audio to linear pcm, selected 5.1 channels, kept av amp. Sonos app shows multi channel pcm 5.1 at all times and I do hear rears and sub in use when playing. Just to note, it sounds pretty much the same if I select soundbar instead of av amp. But I kept it av amp with 5.1 option, for accuracy. This seems to be working correctly for the ps5 now, no? Thanks again
Update 2: nintendo switch 2 behavior slightly different today: only in that now when I test audio output thru the nintendo, switch still only detects tv as stereo, but my sonos app now shows multichannel pcm 5.1 during this test. Yesterday it was only showing as stereo pcm during the test. All else is the same and I have not changed any settings from earlier. Switch settings: source tv (no other option but auto), system virtual surround on, tv sound linear pcm 5.1. Also, I now hear sounds on the rears, albeit very faint, had to put my ears next to speakers. Haven't felt sub yet tho
Hey @Cuziamindian, thank you for the updates and additional information!
A colleague of mine recently bought a Nintendo Switch 2 and said that he didn’t face any issues. I shared with him this thread and he will do some testing.
Until I hear back from him, I would suggest you to disable the Nintendo Switch 2 System Virtual Surround setting and see if that makes a difference. We don’t really want the console to configure the audio to that extend.
Also make sure the Sonos Beam (Gen 2) is connected to the eARC HDMI port of your Samsung TV. Are you using an HDMI switch or all your devices are connected to the HDMI ports of your TV?
Hey thank you for the response, appreciate the advice! I have tried it with and without surround enabled on the switch settings, didn't change the results. But I will leave it off altogether going forward. My bar is connected via earc port and appears to be connected properly, I have no issues with any other devices now, ie ps5 or native apps. All my devices are connected via hdmi 2.1 ports on the TV itself, with capable hdmi cables, no kind of hdmi switch. Digging around other forums and reddit, it seems like this may be a nintendo issue. I'm seeing this occur with people with the same TV, other samsungs, and lg's, as well. None of them have a solution yet, aside from directly connecting switch to beam via hdmi. I'm not too sure how I'd go about connecting the switch directly and still be able to use the ps5 and tv audio too, so I didn't try this method tbh
I think in this topic the switch 2 can be the problem because is very new and sometimes in the release it could have problems until a new software update is available can resolve the problem :)
This happened with me in the ps4 (2013) with dts that I can't put and listen to it or listen but in stereo not in 5.1 or 7.1
