Issue with LG OLED TV and SONOS Arc Ultra

I have a LG OLED TV and ARC Ultra.  I have had this combination for almost 2 years with no issues.

Recently, I have an issue where I turn off the TV and in a few seconds it turns back on.  This can happen multiple times, or sometimes only once.  But it does persist.

The configuration and connections have not changed.

My online research indicates a probable issue with a SONOS update that has triggered this issue.

Does anyone have a suggestion?

Can you link us to that research result?

Have you spoken to Sonos support?

Have you checked tv for any updates?

Have you tried a full power-off reset of tv and Arc?

Used to have this problem with a Sony TV.  Turned off whatever Sony calls their CEC setting.  Can’t ask “Hey Sonos.  Turn on TV” anymore, but I can press buttons with the best of them.

Re-programming the remote via the Sonos app may correct the issue.

There are other probable causes depending upon what remote you are using which may be the TV remote or a cable box remote.

The TV may have received an update that altered how the TV remote operated or the TV needs an update.

If using a cable box remote it may not be turning the TV off. Which means you need to reprogram the cable box remote to turn off the TV. It could also be the reverse. In either case the cable box remote and TV remote need to be in sync.

If using a 3rd party remote it may need reprogramming.

So… bottom-line… what remote are you using?

Just to be clear, you don’t do any ‘Re-programming the remote via the Sonos app’ during the process. What you could potentially be doing is reprogramming the Sonos device to read the IR being sent by the remote. You’re not changing or reprogramming the remote in any way, Sonos doesn’t have any access or control of your remote. The Sonos system only recognizes iR that is sent, on devices that have an IR sensor, or reacts to CEC (HDMI-ARC) information that is passed to it via the ARC (electronic) connection.

Reprogramming the remote itself usually entails direct communication with the remote, or the TV’s settings, which are then communicated to the remote itself. Not Sonos.

Since @Airgetlam has a different take on what I meant by re-programming the remote 😂 take a look at the last option in the picture below. It comes downs to semantics such as Potato vs Po-tat-o 😂 . Anyway a picture is worth a 1000 words:

Potato vs Po-tat-o? “Remote Control Setup” sets up Sonos to work with your remote. It doesn’t program the remote. Not really semantics. No remote programming involved. It makes a difference. Some remotes / universal remotes can be re-programmed. That’s not what is happening here.

@ronclevenger Does the TV also restart when your Sonos device is disconnected?

I had the issue. I turned it all off for a while and I eventually noticed my LG G4 threw up an update done notice. No problem since. Check if the TV has an update or not.
