Intermittent Audio Issue

I have a complicated issue. I have a 65” Samsung TV that is connected to my Sonos whole-house audio system via ethernet and a BINARY B-260-ARC adapter. When connected via HDMI eARC port to the Binary component, the resulting sound cuts out every 2-3 seconds. (Sound works fine when using TV speakers or when connected directly to a soundbar.)

I have replaced all connected components and cables. Samsung has verified that TV is working properly. One tech told me that Samsung has a known defect that often causes intermittent issues with Sonos (unverified).

Any thoughts on how to overcome this problem?

I have multiple TVs. One has an ARC soundbar and is not a problem. This TV is set up differently (no ARC; no soundbar) and connected to the Sonos amp/speakers via the Binary B-260-ARC. We have one amp per room, approximately 12 zones in total (including outdoor spaces). The was a professionally installed system.

I am not asking for advice regarding setup. I am simply asking if anyone has run into intermittent audio problems (sound continually cuts in and out) when using this type of setup.

Thanks for taking the time to respond. I appreciate your help.

OK...it would have been helpful to know all detail as just presented upfront. That said sound dropping out is typically a network issue. However, since your setup is very non-standard by Sonos standards it may be the TV as you were preciously told (but I doubt it).

As I see it you have two options:

  1. Run a diagnostic within 10 minutes of the next occurrence, make note of the reference ID and at your convenience call Sonos Tech Support to discuss the data. Do not post the reference ID in the community.
  2. Call the installer who setup the system

So from your post the Samsung doesn’t have a HDMI eARC port therefore the Binary B-260 ARC adapter?

So the issue is with the BINARY B-260-ARC adapter. What’s the purpose of using the adapter?

The Samsung does have a HDMI eARC port. However, because this is a whole-house system, the Sonos amps are stacking in a rack in a closet. The TV sound is supposed to flow through ceiling-mounted speakers. The HDMI from the TV connects to the Binary B-260-ARC, which connects to the Sonos system and the speakers.

Your profile shows that you have a Sonos Arc.

The Arc nor any Sonos soundbar is not designed to send TV (video) audio to any Sonos speaker and/or Sonos Amp with wired speakers in any configuration; as there will be a 75ms delay. Music can be sent without issue when rooms are grouped with the Arc.

Sonos recommends that all systems be wireless over WiFi whenever possible. In the case of your rack of Sonos Amps and/or Connect:Amps (hereafter referred to as “Amp”) with wired speakers...each Amp should be set as a room. It’s perfectly fine to wire each Amp via Ethernet back to you router via a dumb switch.

When playing music you can group rooms including the Arc to play the same audio. However, as said earlier grouping for TV (video) audio is not recommended.

If the Arc is properly connected to the Samsung via HDMI eArc; I see no need for the Binary B-260 ARC adapter.

If I'm missing something...please advise.

No. But then I don’t have this extremely odd setup, either.
