Can I use am Amp to connect existing in ceiling speakers to my Sonos Arc plus Era 300s? The house we’re in has them already in the den’s ceiling.

Where should I place the Amp? How’s the best way to connect and sync everything?

If you already have Era 300’s as surrounds bonded to your Arc you cannot add the in-celing speakers to work as a cohesive unit controlled by the Arc.

You can add a Sonos Amp to power the in-ceiling speakers as a separate  room. When playing music you can group them to the Arc (with surrounds) to fill your space with more sound; although it might be overkill.

The in-ceiling speakers can be used for ambient music sound when using the Arc home theater (and or grouping) is not desired.

Also, know that TruePlay tuning (if your device is iOS) will not work for the Arc and in-ceiling speakers at the same time. You will have to TruePlay the Arc and surrounds as a room and then the In-ceiling speakers as a room. If you add a sub to the Arc it cannot be used with the In-ceiling speakers.

Thanks. VERY helpful. Sounds like I don’t need to bother with the in-ceiling speakers then.

As I said they won’t be part of your home theater...but you might like them for over-head ambient/full music speakers that can be used as a stand-alone room or grouped with the Arc for that BIG party you’re planning 😂

BTW, the Amp can be placed anywhere that’s makes a convenient connection run to the speakers and is accessible by you. You might also consider (if not already installed) a wall mounted attenuator for volume control. In that manner you’d have three ways to control volume:

  • Amp
  • Sonos App
  • Wall controller *

* May override Amp and Sonos app if set to lowest position
