I’ve recently bought Era 300s for use as rear surrounds but have discovered that they won’t work with most of my 4K discs as the audio is DTS rather than Dolby Atmos.  My 4K player (Panasonic UB820) doesn’t seem to have any option to convert the audio to Dolby but my Xbox Series X does.

My question is what are the best settings to choose on the Xbox to get the best results for DTS discs.  Do I select Dolby Atmos or 5.1 uncompressed or Dolby digital?  As an aside, am I correct in saying that the UB820 can’t convert audio?

Any help appreciated, thanks.

What model TV do you have?

On the UB820, set the DTS/DTS-HD setting to PCM for all DTS discs.

On the Xbox, set HDMI Audio to 5.1 uncompressed or 7.1 uncompressed.

It’s a Samsung QN94A.

Thanks for the tip, I thought I wouldn’t be able to use the Panasonic 4K player and now I can!

Quick follow up question.  I occasionally have an issue with split second breaks in sound (this happened before too when I was just using the Beam 2).  What is likely the cause of this?  I sometimes solve it by disconnecting the HDMI from the Beam to the tv and then reconnecting.  Do I need a better cable or is it something else?

It’s likely a Samsung issue. 95% of people who report audio dropouts in this community own Samsung TVs. The first thing to check is the Digital Output Audio Format setting on the TV. Make sure it is set to Pass-Through, not Auto.
