If your TV is equipped with eARC, you should be able to play Dolby Atmos audio from an Apple TV 4K,
@ChrisNewbold
Any relevant update or experiences on that topic?
Currently I am thinking about buying a 75NANO82T6B and have the same setup: ATV4K, Sonos Arc.
Therefore it would be crucial to have a proper uncompressed passthrough.
I couldn’t find anything on the internet so far, LG manual does not help.
@ChrisNewbold
You already got a „best answer“ above. If the tv supports eARC, it probably will be able to passthrough an uncompressed atmos signal.
LG seems to have trouble with Dolby MAT (which is the format Apple TV passes and which works for Atmos on the Arc). That is why it is not only about whether it can pass through in general (which should work with eARC) but if the format works.
@julius99
Afaik that issue is about some LG models just supporting compressed atmos via ARC (without e) and not recoding a MAT signal like some others of their ARC models do.
Imho all models with eARC should be able to handle uncompressed atmos also including a mat signal.
But maybe you have more detailed information you can tell us.
No, not really. I am referring to a thread on Apple discussions: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/253241793?sortBy=rank where they talk about LG NanoCell having problems with Atmos.
PS: I just contacted a merchant from my area who is currently offering the LG 75NANO82T6B at a reasonable price. Maybe he can tell me more about the passthrough via eARC and/or confirm that it works. If he offers to test it and otherwise pick it up again, I would do it and buy the TV. I will keep you updated.
Information I had from lg is that pass thru will NOT work on anything less than their OLEDs which they claimed was to do with processor, not nec e-arc capability per se.

Puh… imho that’s a strange answer. Sorry, just my personal opinion, but I really can’t believe that, bacause that would mean all the other non oled display models equipped with eARC wouldn’t support passthrough and uncompressed atmos. And I can’t believe LG does do so if the other manufacturers also offer much cheaper non oled display models that support passthrough.
Maybe I‘m wrong, but sometimes level1 support information is some kind of lottery. I would double check this info.
Yeah you could be right. However in the end I decided to get a oled anyway. If true, for sure it’s not a necessary restriction.
I just wanted to mention the same @Schlumpf !
Does not make any sense to me.
OLED and QLED/Nano/LED are different panels but parts of the mainboard and especially the software are identical. eARC-features should be identical as well. There ARE manufacturers that cannot handle a proper passthrough. But that is for all of their models.
That is why I would suppose that also a 75NANO82T6B should be capable of passing through.
The merchant I contacted also confirmed that it definitely should work with all new models (referring to eARC).
The manual for that very model is pretty shitty. I checked the online manual and could only find this info from LG:
“Using an eARC-compatible audio device

→ Sound → Advanced Settings → eARC Support
eARC is a technology that, thanks to its greater bandwidth, can send and receive more audio information faster than conventional ARC connections. This allows you to enjoy higher quality sound via an ARC-connected audio device.
01 Connect an audio device to the HDMI (eARC/ARC) port that supports eARC.
02 Go to Audio Output → Use Wired Speakers, and select HDMI(ARC) Device.
03 Set eARC Support to On.”
Nothing about any restrictions but no hints about supported formats or uncompressed passthrough as well.
For me the thing is that I (honestly) don’t need an OLED and I want to stick to my budget.
In that area there are only TCL or Hisense models. Or Xiaomi. Some Samsungs as well but I dislike them for not working properly with Sonos at all. Cheaper Sony and Panasonic are not too appealing. There would also be a QLED Grundig but I cannot find ANY information on passthrough for that model, just the same as with LG.
So I know that a 75NANO82T6B is not the best tv but in terms of value for the money I really think it would work for me. Currently I’m hesitating whether to order, wait for delivery, unpack, test passthrough - and in worst case to return it again.
So I just contacted LG directly about it (talked to a support chat employee).
His short answer after I stated what bothers me:
“Sure thing, that is what eARC is there for. Passing through Dolby Atmos. That works.”

This time it was the support lottery jackpot.

Unlikely! What incredible luck. To be honest I did not expect to get any answer. Let alone one that could match my question. And now they exactly told me what I wanted to hear.
Even though, a small doubt remains. Nonetheless I decided to go for it and ordered the tv right away
Update:
I received the 75NANO82T6B today, unboxed and inspected it. And put it on the wall.
What I can confirm, referring to reviews on the internet, is that LGs software webOS is awfully slow. Based on that I wouldn’t keep that tv. Fortunately an Apple TV 4K was part of the initial deal, that is why I don’t care about the OS
After installing everything I immediately tested what we have talked about:
works like a charm! There is even a small and short pop-up telling you that “Dolby Atmos” is provided and transmitted to the soundbar (which gets recognized as Sonos Arc on the tv menu as well). So I can confirm: Atmos is passed trough perfectly fine!
Sidenote: image is good, I like it. Tests that I could find gave a wrong impression (in my eyes). Of course it is no OLED but a 75 inch tv for that money delivering such image quality and overall specs is real value for money. I am pretty happy.

Thanks for reporting… and don’t forget to leave a feedback for the first LG support contact.
