How do I disable the tv speakers on my Bravia TV so that the default is my Sonos Beam and two speakers become the default. I can switch off the tv speakers but I have to do this each time I turn on the tv and I am looking for a solution to resolve this permanently without getting the echoey sound produced from tv speakers and Sonos speakers each time I turn on the tv. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Usually, connecting a device via CEC (HDMI-ARC) does this automatically. Which Sony Bravia TV do you have? How is your Sonos Beam connected to your TV?

My Tv is a Sony Bravia KD-49XG9005.

My beam is connected using the supplied HDMI cable and plugged into the ARC  port on the TV

Ok, this is a 2019 TV. 

The first thing I’d do on the TV is check for firmware/software updates, and apply them. Then I’d look at the settings for BraviaLink (HDMI-ARC, but what Sony calls it), and make sure it is turned on. The web manual I’ve been able to find is, as normal, convoluted, but there should be an audio section where you can either (or both) turn off internal speakers, and turn on the digital output. Normally doing the latter does the former.

You may also want to reach out to Sony’s CS group for settings. 

Finally, I’d also be tempted to force a reload of the TV’s OS by unplugging it from the wall (not just turning it off with a button) for two minutes, then plugging it back in. 

Still Struggling now as the screen is saying SAFE MODE. I have held the power button until it says restart and that comes back but turning up the volume it just goes back to zero of its own accord.

What did Sony’s Customer Support say?

Resolved hopefully, just unplugged tv and left it overnight to completely clear any build up of static etc and this morning plugged back in and all back to normal fingers crossed.

It has made me look to replace though and now looking at OLED ones 55 inch is that what is recommended nowadays ?

I recently purchased a Bravia 7 (65”) and it’s an outstanding TV. I have a brighter room, lots of windows, so a mini-LED is a good choice. However, you may also want to check out a Bravia 8 OLED (especially if your room is less bright).

Thanks for all your advice and assistance guys. I have ended up taking others suggestions and bought a new Bravia 8 55 inch OLED, Now less than 24 hours old so still early days but the difference between interface etc is striking as compared with my 2019 pervious one. I will pass my old one on to my son in law who will not struggle with connections etc as he is in the telecoms industry so should know what he is doing
