I have an LG G4 TV and I want to connect it in to my Sonos system but I don’t want a soundbar on the wall. I have a 1’ x 1’ box cut out in wall behind the TV that I could put an Amp but that seems like an overkill solution when all I need is to get TV audio in to the system. I use an Apple TV for streaming everything. I have speakers in the ceiling and elsewhere that will be the audio for the setup but they will connect in wirelessly once I figure out how to get the TV audio (Apple TV) in to the Sonos network. I could also drop a wire behind the TV through the floor to the basement and put an Arc down there (again, not for the sound just to get in the system) but again that feels like an odd solution. I don’t think the port works given the analog audio inputs. Thoughts?

You need a soundbar or Amp, as you have already determined.

You are going to need a Sonos device with a TV input - Arc, Beam, Ray, or Amp.  Also, any plan to use your existing speakers to ”connect in wirelessly” isn’t going to work.  You would be grouping those speakers with the Sonos TV device, and grouped speakers will always be 75 ms behind the TV audio, causing lip sync issues.  In reality, here’s the only way(s) to achieve TV sound with Sonos:

  1. A Sonos device with optical/HDMI-Arc input - Arc, Beam, Ray, or Amp (connected to two passive front speakers).
  2. If you want more speakers, you would need an Amp (connected to two passive rear speakers, in addition to the front Amp, if you are using one), 2 Era-100, or 2 Era-300’s configured as surrounds.
  3. 1 or 2 Subs, or a singular Sub Mini.
