Hi all

Looking to enter the Sonos community, however want to ensure that this setup will work prior to purchase

Existing equipment - Apple TV, Projector (no arc)

Looking to purchase -  Amp, in ceiling set & in wall set

Q1 |

Is the correct configuration to have this system work Apple TV → (via HDMI) HD Fury → (via HDMI) 1. Projector & (via HDMI arc) 2. Amp

and if I were to include additional al equipment eg PC, Set top box then it would be a HDMI switch between Apple TV and HD fury

Q2 |

Is one or two amps required to support a set of ceiling and a set of wall speakers?

Two AMP’s are required for surround sound. One for front, one for rear. The rear AMP usually connects to the front AMP wirelessly.

Thanks for the prompt reply Buzz, is it possible to wire the two amps or is wireless the only option?

Note that with two Amps, you won’t get Atmos. Which is what the HD Fury can provide. You’d need an Arc Ultra or Beam. If you’re using the Amp to drive your own front speakers, you’ll get a simulated/interpolated center channel, only the Sonos soundbars have a ‘true’ center channel.

You can Ethernet wire two Sonos Amos to your router, if desired, but I’d recommend going wireless for that connection.

Fortunately, only the additional input / line in is turned off on the Amp driving the surrounds, it works fine on the ‘front’ Amp.

Each Sonos Amp can drive up to two pairs of 8 Ohm speakers. But as previously explained, there is no center post to allow hook up of a center speaker.

Thanks Bruce, if I understand this correctly it’s either the x2 amp setup with in wall and in ceiling which would result in not true center speaker OR 1 amp to power the in ceiling/wall and a beam/ultra arc

Yes, if I understand your setup properly. Honestly, I’d prefer to have just two surrounds, not four speakers doing that duty, but that’s a preference for my ears. Home theater systems are designed for just two sources of surround. That being said, I suspect some number of folks run four surround speakers off a single Sonos Amp.

I’d set up the extra pair of speakers as another room, and use them just for music…but that requires a second Amp, which can be expensive.

Thank you, appreciate it :D

You might try the 2 speaker and 4 speaker setups and see which you like best. If you prefer the 2 speaker for TV and the 4 speaker for music you could add a speaker selector switch so you could easily have both options.
